February 2 "World Wetlands Day"
February 2 of each year coincides with World Wetlands Day. It was designated on February 2, 1971 with the Ramsar Convention, or the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, to which more than 160 countries around the world are co-signatories to the Convention.
World Wetlands Day was established to conserve wetlands that are biologically diverse and related to species and ecological population communities of waterfowl and fish. In 2026, an event was organized under the theme "Wetlands and Conventional Wisdom: A Celebration of Cultural Heritage" (Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage).
Because wetlands are not only natural watercourses, but areas that feed life, and they are ancient sources of nature that help keep the ecological balance and sustainability of natural resources with us.

พื้นที่ชุ่มน้ำถือเป็นหนึ่งในระบบนิเวศที่สำคัญที่สุดในการรักษาความสมดุลของสิ่งแวดล้อม ไม่เพียงแต่เป็นแหล่งอาศัยของนกน้ำ ปลา และสัตว์น้ำต่าง ๆ แต่ยังเป็นแหล่งรวมของภูมิปัญญาดั้งเดิมซึ่งถูกส่งต่อจากรุ่นสู่รุ่นในชุมชนท้องถิ่นทั่วโลก จากประสบการณ์ส่วนตัว พบว่าเมื่อได้เยี่ยมชมพื้นที่ชุ่มน้ำในประเทศไทย เช่น บึงบอระเพ็ด หรือคลองบางปลากด จะเห็นว่าชุมชนในพื้นที่มีการร่วมมือกันรักษาทรัพยากรธรรมชาติผ่านวิถีชีวิตและวัฒนธรรมที่ผูกพันกับน้ำและผืนดินในพื้นที่ การเรียนรู้และเคารพในภูมิปัญญานี้ช่วยให้เกิดความยั่งยืนและการพัฒนาอย่างสมดุล หัวข้อในปี 2569 “พื้นที่ชุ่มน้ำและภูมิปัญญาดั้งเดิม: การเฉลิมฉลองมรดกทางวัฒนธรรม” สะท้อนถึงความสำคัญที่ต้องร่วมมือกันระหว่างภาครัฐ ชุมชนท้องถิ่น และนักอนุรักษ์ เพื่อสืบสานและส่งเสริมความรู้เกี่ยวกับการจัดการพื้นที่ชุ่มน้ำอย่างถูกต้องและยั่งยืนโดยไม่ทำลายความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพ นอกจากนี้ พื้นที่ชุ่มน้ำยังช่วยในการบรรเทาภัยธรรมชาติต่าง ๆ อย่างน้ำท่วมและภัยแล้ง และเป็นแหล่งกักเก็บคาร์บอนลดภาวะโลกร้อน ซึ่งเป็นประเด็นสำคัญในยุคปัจจุบัน ด้วยเหตุนี้ การเฉลิมฉลองวันพื้นที่ชุ่มน้ำโลกจึงเป็นโอกาสดีที่ทำให้ผู้คนย้ำเตือนถึงความสำคัญของพื้นที่เหล่านี้ และร่วมกันรักษาสมดุลสิ่งแวดล้อมอย่างต่อเนื่อง ผู้ที่สนใจสามารถเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ ในวันพื้นที่ชุ่มน้ำโลกหรือเยี่ยมชมพื้นที่ชุ่มน้ำในประเทศไทย เพื่อเรียนรู้และสัมผัสกับความงดงามของระบบนิเวศและวัฒนธรรมที่ผูกพันกันได้อย่างใกล้ชิด
