If anyone enjoys a shrub with tender pink petals, believe to know "Donna Queen Sirikit," a tree with this impressive history certainly.
"Donna Queen Sirikit," a shrub, can be up to 7 m tall, with short, soft hairs along the branches, a leaf plate below, an inflorescence, a calyx, an ornamental and a petal, two-pointed leaf ears, an opposite leaf, an ellipse, up to 15 cm long, an apex, an inflorescence at the end of the branches, a small ornamental leaf, a fast fall, five petals, an extension into a petal-like sheet, pink, 1.2-5 cm long.
The petal tube needle flower is about 2 cm long, the tip is split into 5 petals, yellow, wide oval, shorter than the petal tube, the middle of the petal is a ridge, the tip has a pointed polyp, five male pollen, not protruding from the mouth of the petal tube.
It is a hybrid between the red donya species M. erythrophylla "Dona Trining," a hybrid from the African species, the red calyx, with a single petal that extends into a sheet, and the white donya species M. philippica "Aurorae," a hybrid species of the Philippines, the white calyx, all 5 petals enlarged into a sheet, accomplished in c.1948 at the National University of the Philippines and named as the "Queen Sirikit" species to honor Her Majesty Sirikit, who first visited the Philippines in 1970.
