My go-to is definitely Notion for tracking assignments, and I wanted to share a bit more about how I set it up and why it works so well for me, especially since many of you might be looking for your own DIY assignment tools and techniques! When I first started, I wanted something flexible and visual. That’s why Notion clicked. For my assignment tracker, I create a database. Each entry is an assignment. Here’s how I personalize it, much like you might see on my desk setup with the colorful keyboard and tablet displaying my tracker: First, properties are key! I add these columns: Assignment Name: Simple enough! Course: A 'Select' property to easily filter by class (e.g., 'History,' 'Math,' 'English'). Due Date: A 'Date' property with a reminder option – life-saver! Status: This is where I use 'Select' for 'Not Started,' 'In Progress,' 'Completed,' and 'Waiting for Feedback.' This is the basis for my color-coded entries you might have spotted – 'Completed' might be green, 'In Progress' yellow, and 'Not Started' red. It gives me an instant visual overview of my workload at a glance. Type: Another 'Select' for 'Homework,' 'Essay,' 'Project,' 'Exam,' etc. Priority: 'High,' 'Medium,' 'Low' – helps me decide what to tackle first. Notes/Resources: This is a 'Text' property where I link directly to assignment instructions, lecture notes, or even specific research articles. It’s super handy to have everything in one place. Grade: Once submitted, I add a 'Number' property for the grade. Seeing my grades alongside assignments fuels my school motivation! I often use different 'views' for my database too. A 'Board' view, grouped by 'Status,' is fantastic for seeing my progress (just like moving sticky notes!). A 'Calendar' view helps me visualize deadlines, which is crucial when I have multiple assignments due. Beyond Notion, there are so many other fantastic DIY techniques I've tried. For those who prefer a more analog approach, a simple bullet journal can be an incredibly effective assignment tracker. Just dedicate a page or a spread to your weekly tasks, use symbols for status (dot for task, x for completed, > for migrated), and it’s a brilliant way to track. Or, for a quick digital alternative, even a Google Sheet can be customized with columns similar to my Notion setup – just less visually appealing perhaps, but equally functional! The important thing is to find a system that makes sense to you and reduces your cognitive load. Having a dedicated space, whether digital or physical, to dump all your assignments and then organize them makes a huge difference. It frees up your mental energy to actually do the work, instead of constantly worrying about what you might be forgetting. Experiment with different tools and techniques until you find your perfect match for mastering your schoolwork!
