Women’s Month

It’s so hard to be a woman sometimes.

You’re held to a higher standard, must always have that ‘no makeup’ look that absolutely uses makeup, have to be the bigger person, etc.

I NEVER take a picture just of me. I always end up grabbing my dog or husband so the focus isn’t on me.

I did a a couple miles on the treadmill at the gym today and took a quick shower, and I kept pointing out my flares in the mirror.

Eyebrows are a mess, hair looks tangled, cheeks too chubby, nose too big, acne that always pops up no matter what skincare routine I follow.

Then it hit me: nobody else is saying this stuff to me. Why am I so quick to be my own bully?

I’m not perfect, but I’m the only me I have.

I’m a little chunky, but I have a strong body that carries me through life.

My nose is bigger than I’d like, but it’s the same nose that is on my mom’s side of the family, it shows where my family has been.

So here I am. A makeup free selfie. No pets or other people to pull focus. I have a naked face and I feel very vulnerable in this picture. I’m terrified to post, but I feel this is a safe space to do so.

My goal this month is to not feel the need to apologize for being me, and to not tear myself down.

With the rise of social media, the scrutiny of appearances can be overwhelming. However, embracing vulnerability can lead to personal growth and strength. Learn to appreciate your unique features—each imperfection tells a story. By accepting ourselves, we inspire others to do the same. Initiatives like #EmbraceVulnerability encourage open discussions about mental health and self-acceptance. Share your story and uplift others. Remember, confidence stems from acknowledging our flaws and celebrating our identities as individuals. Together, we can create a supportive community that champions authenticity over perfection. Let's redefine beauty standards and empower one another through every struggle and triumph. Join in this transformative movement this Women’s Month, and let’s celebrate the beauty of being ourselves!
