The perfect Dyson curls

Prep matters!

Take your time and don’t let it overwhelm you, when you wash your hair make sure you’re getting it super clean with a clarifying shampoo, I love #oribe because it get ALL the buildup out!

Then add moisture with your shampoo and conditioner, my fav right now is #briogeo soft moisturized hair is the key to good curls with the Dyson, you can even go the extra step and add a hair mask after your conditioner and let it sit while you wash your body, shave your legs and do your other shower steps! The #amika hydro rush has been my go too recently!

Once out of the shower ALWAYS dry with a micro fiber towel to get excess water out before adding products, I leave it on while doing laundry, eating dinner or doom scrolling until I’m ready to start styling my hair lol!

Once I’m ready to style I go in with my #drunk elephant leave in conditioner and a healthy dose of the #colorwowdreamcoat then I brush all that through and go in with Oribe heat protectant, my absolute favorite!

Then using the Dyson blow dryer attachment I use this on my roots and any sections I feel heavy water retention, then swapping to my round or paddle brush to get my hair to the overall 80-85% dry (as you section and work through your hair this will turn into 90-95%) then with the tapered curler I’ll use high heat for enough time to create the curl(15-20 seconds) and then cold shot until the hair is fully cool(5-10 seconds) then brush out with wide tooth comb!

But sometimes, we want those curls to last even longer or maybe understand why some days they look better than others. I’ve been there! Let me share a few more hacks I've picked up, especially when it comes to maximizing that amazing tapered barrel and keeping those perfect curls bouncy for days. First off, let’s talk more about the Dyson tapered barrel itself. While the main article covers the basics, I've found that for truly voluminous, natural-looking curls, the way you section your hair makes a huge difference. Don't just grab random pieces! Smaller, consistent sections around one inch wide really allow the barrel to do its magic, ensuring even heat distribution and a more defined curl. And don't rush the cold shot – that's your curl's superpower for setting! I sometimes even give it an extra 5 seconds if I'm feeling fancy. When I use my hair styler, I also sometimes use the round brush attachment first for extra root lift before going in with the tapered barrel for the mid-lengths and ends. It creates amazing volume and movement! Now, about those 'reason for curly hair' queries – while we're talking about styling, understanding your hair's natural tendencies can seriously level up your Dyson game. If you have naturally wavy or fine hair, you might find your curls drop faster. This is where those post-styling steps become crucial. After you’ve created your gorgeous perfect curls, resist the urge to touch them until they're completely cool. Once cool, use a wide-tooth comb *very gently*, or even just your fingers, to break them up for a softer look. For longevity, I swear by sleeping on a silk pillowcase or doing a 'pineapple' updo – literally gathering all your curls on top of your head in a loose scrunchie. This prevents them from getting flattened overnight. On day two or three, if your curls need a little refresh, a light mist of a smoothing spray or a touch of leave-in conditioner can revive them without adding weight. I also find that using a good clarifying shampoo and a hydrating hair mask regularly, as mentioned in the main guide, truly builds the foundation for hair that wants to hold a curl. Healthy hair, with its intact cuticle, is less porous and therefore retains shape better. So, those initial hair care products like the moisture shampoo and conditioner aren't just for softness – they're your secret weapon for curl retention! And always, always use that heat protectant spray – it's non-negotiable for keeping your hair healthy enough to keep styling. Trust me, these extra steps turn 'good curls' into 'great, lasting curls!'
