After clearing the aphid and a lot of new leaves, it's time to trim the bushes according to the garden instructions.

✂️ How to trim (step by step)
1️⃣ Choose the main stem.
1 main trunk left.
3-4 structural branches selected
→ Spread out in different directions, like a cup.
2️⃣ Cut branches that "should not be kept."
Cut out now:
Branches that grow into the bushes.
Cross branches. Stacked branches.
Dry branches, weak branches.
Bud broken from the cone (suckers)
3️⃣ height control

จากประสบการณ์ส่วนตัวในการตัดแต่งโอลีฟในกระถางที่บ้าน พบว่าการตัดแต่งทรงพุ่มแบบทรงถ้วยหรือทรงแจกัน (Open Center) ช่วยให้โอลีฟมีการระบายอากาศดีขึ้นและแสงแดดส่องถึงทุกกิ่งจริงๆ ที่สำคัญคือโอลีฟจะออกดอกดกกว่าเดิมมาก ก่อนตัดแต่งผมมักจะสังเกตดูว่ามีกิ่งไหนที่งอกเข้าในพุ่มหรืองอกซ้อนทับกันเยอะๆ กิ่งแห้งหรืออ่อนแอ และหน่อที่แตกมาจากโคนต้น (suckers) ซึ่งทั้งหมดนี้จะถูกตัดออกเป็นอันดับแรก เพราะถ้าไม่ตัดออกไปจะทำให้พุ่มแออัด เสี่ยงต่อโรคและแมลง พอเก็บส่วนที่ไม่จำเป็นออกไปจนพุ่มดูโล่งขึ้น แสงก็ส่องถึงซอกใบได้ดี ช่วยให้ผลผลิตดีขึ้นจริง ช่วงเวลาที่เหมาะสำหรับตัดแต่งสำหรับโอลีฟในประเทศไทย คือช่วงหลังการเก็บผลไม้ หรือปลายฤดูหนาว ซึ่งอากาศไม่ร้อนจนเกินไป และต้นไม้มีเวลาฟื้นตัวดีกว่าช่วงฤดูร้อน ฝนตกชุก นอกจากนี้การตัดแต่งอย่าตัดหนักเกินไปในคราวเดียว ผมจะไม่ตัดเกิน 25-30% ของพุ่มเพื่อไม่ให้ต้นเครียดมาก หลังจากตัดแต่งเสร็จ ผมจะรดน้ำอย่างสม่ำเสมอแต่ไม่ให้น้ำขัง และใส่ปุ๋ยคอกเก่าหรือปุ๋ยละลายช้าเพื่อช่วยให้ต้นไม้ฟื้นตัวเร็วขึ้นในช่วง 2-3 วันแรก หากแดดจัดมากก็จะใช้ผ้าบางๆ มาบังเพื่อปกป้องใบไม่ให้โดนแสงแรงเกินไป เพราะสภาพแวดล้อมที่ดีจะช่วยลดปัญหาใบไหม้และโรคที่มากับความร้อน สำหรับคนที่ปลูกโอลีฟในกระถาง ผมแนะนำให้คอยตรวจสอบความสูงและรูปทรงต้นอยู่เสมอ ไม่ให้เกิน 2-2.5 เมตร ตามคำแนะนำที่ได้รับ เพราะโอลีฟกระถางจะเจริญเติบโตได้ดีและควบคุมปริมาณผลผลิตได้ง่ายกว่า นอกจากนี้ การทำพุ่มให้โปร่งจะช่วยให้ผลผลิตออกมาเยอะและคุณภาพดีขึ้นมาก สุดท้ายนี้ ตัดแต่งโอลีฟอย่างสม่ำเสมอและรู้จักสังเกตกิ่งที่ควรตัดคือกุญแจสำคัญที่จะทำให้ต้นโอลีฟแข็งแรง ผลิดอกดี และสวยงามมากขึ้นอย่างชัดเจนครับ
