KUHLI’S FLYING GECKO HATCHLINGS!!!

Seeing my first Kuhli's Flying Gecko hatchlings emerge this morning was an absolute dream come true! It got me thinking about why these incredible creatures captured my heart so many years ago and why they're such a unique addition to the reptile hobby. If you've ever been curious about these fascinating 'flying' geckos, let me share a little about what makes them so special. The Kuhli's Flying Gecko, scientifically known as *Ptychozoon kuhli*, isn't actually capable of true flight, but their common name comes from their amazing gliding ability! They possess unique flaps of skin along their sides, limbs, and even tail, which they spread out to create a parachute-like effect. This allows them to gracefully glide between trees, making escapes from predators incredibly swift and elegant. Their camouflage is also absolutely astounding; they can blend seamlessly into tree bark, making them masters of disguise in their natural habitat. These geckos hail from the rainforests of Southeast Asia, where they are primarily arboreal and nocturnal. This means they spend most of their lives high up in trees and are most active under the cover of darkness. Observing them at night, moving stealthily or exploring their enclosure, is truly captivating. As a keeper, providing an environment that mimics their natural home is key to their well-being. For anyone dreaming of keeping these beauties, a tall vivarium with plenty of vertical climbing space is essential. Think live plants, cork bark, and lots of branches to provide ample opportunities for them to climb, hide, and yes, even practice their gliding skills! Maintaining high humidity is also crucial; I mist my enclosure daily, sometimes twice, to keep the moisture levels up, which is vital for their skin health and shedding process. Temperature-wise, they thrive in moderate tropical conditions, typically around 75-82°F (24-28°C) during the day, with a slight drop at night. Diet-wise, they're insectivores! Crickets and roaches dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements are staples. Watching them hunt their prey at night is super cool and a testament to their natural instincts. While they are generally shy and not a pet you'll handle often, their unique behaviors and stunning appearance make them incredibly rewarding to observe. Building a beautiful, bioactive enclosure for them is a hobby in itself! And if you're lucky enough to breed them, like I am, seeing those tiny eggs hatch after months of waiting is an unparalleled joy. Each little hatchling is a miniature version of its parents, already equipped with those incredible skin flaps.
