what to bring on a long drive! 🚗🚎🤭

3/13 Edited to

... Read moreEvery time I plan a long drive, I always think beyond just the basics. It's those 'what else to bring' items that truly transform a tedious journey into a comfortable and fun adventure! Over the years, I've refined my packing list to include things that anticipate every possible need and make the hours fly by. First up, let's talk about comfort and relaxation, because a long drive can really take a toll if you're not prepared. For me, a comfy pillow is non-negotiable, especially if you're not the one driving. It's perfect for a quick nap or just leaning back and relaxing against the headrest. And a small, soft blanket? Oh my goodness, it's a lifesaver for unexpected chills from the AC or just to feel cozy, especially during night drives. I always roll mine up and keep it easily accessible. Another game-changer is bringing extra shoes. I usually pack some slip-ons or comfy sandals. Driving in boots or tight shoes for hours can be really tiring, and having something easy to change into at rest stops or even while driving can make a huge difference in leg comfort. If you get restless like me, fidgets are surprisingly helpful. A small stress ball or a simple pop-it can keep your hands busy and your mind a little more engaged, especially when traffic is slow or the scenery is a bit monotonous. Next, let's ensure you're entertained and mentally stimulated. My headphones are always charged and ready. They're perfect for listening to podcasts, audiobooks, or just my favorite tunes without disturbing anyone else in the car. It’s my little bubble of peace! For a more analog break from screen time, coloring supplies (like a small adult coloring book and colored pencils) or a diary can be wonderful. It's a great way to unwind and be present, rather than constantly scrolling on your phone. Sometimes, jotting down thoughts in a diary about the journey or just anything that comes to mind is super therapeutic. And okay, this might sound silly, but a small stuffed animal isn't just for kids! For adults, it can be a comforting presence, a mini pillow, or just a fun little travel buddy to keep spirits up. It's all about making the space feel more personal and cozy. Practicality and hygiene are also key. Staying hydrated is paramount, so a reusable water bottle is a must. I fill mine up at every opportunity. And for food, a good stash of snacks is crucial. Think non-messy, energy-boosting options – I love bringing some fruit, granola bars, and maybe even some homemade sandwiches to avoid pricey, unhealthy fast food stops. Hand sanitizer is a no-brainer for quick clean-ups, especially after gas station stops or eating in the car. And gum? Not just for fresh breath, but it also helps with ear pressure changes and can even keep you a bit more alert. The dry air conditioning in the car always gets to my lips, so chapstick is an absolute essential. It makes a surprising difference in overall comfort. Finally, don't forget your tech and safety items. You absolutely cannot forget your charger for your phone! GPS, music, communication – your phone does it all, so keeping it powered is vital. And sunglasses are vital for reducing glare and eye strain, making the drive safer and more comfortable during sunny hours. By packing these 'what else to bring' items, I've found that my long drives are not just smoother, but genuinely enjoyable. It’s about being prepared for comfort, entertainment, and any little thing that pops up on the road. Happy travels!
