Tracking your thoughts and feelings over time, perhaps through journaling, can highlight patterns where perceptions don't match reality. Additionally, seeking support from friends or professionals can offer perspective and coping strategies. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is often recommended to challenge and reframe distorted body image thoughts. Understanding that body dysmorphia is not about vanity but a genuine disorder helps reduce stigma and encourages individuals to seek help without shame. Embracing self-compassion and focusing on overall well-being, rather than appearance alone, can foster a healthier self-image.
