Taking the TEAS soon? Don’t miss these 5 Science concepts Save this before test

Retaking the TEAS or feeling overwhelmed by the Science section? Start smaller.

This ATI TEAS Science review focuses on one topic only: the integumentary system. Instead of rereading an entire anatomy chapter, use this TEAS Science cheat sheet to review skin layers, melanocytes, melanin, skin glands, Merkel cells, dermal papillae, and thermoregulation.

For your TEAS 2026 prep, make sure you can distinguish the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. Know that blood vessels are found in the dermis, recognize the stratum corneum as the outermost epidermal layer, remember that the stratum lucidum is associated with thick skin, and connect the stratum basale with epidermal cell division.

Also review the function of melanin, the role of melanocytes, gland secretions, fine-touch sensation, fingerprint ridges, and cooling through sweat evaporation.

7/3 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I was preparing for the TEAS Science section, I found that narrowing down my focus to the integumentary system made a huge difference in my confidence and understanding. Instead of trying to memorize broad topics, I concentrated on the skin layers — the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis — and their roles. Understanding that the blood vessels lie in the dermis and that the stratum corneum is the outermost layer helped me visualize how our skin protects and interacts with the environment. I also learned the vital role of melanocytes, located in the stratum basale, which produce melanin to protect skin from UV radiation — an important concept often tested. Additionally, knowing different skin glands like sebaceous (sebum producers), apocrine (pheromone-related secretion), and ceruminous (earwax production) made gland-related questions easier to tackle. Don’t forget to link Merkel cells with fine-touch sensation and dermal papillae with fingerprint ridges; these connections helped me remember sensory and structural skin components. A practical tip is to imagine sweating as your body’s natural cooling system through evaporation — it’s a simple process but crucial for thermoregulation questions. Throughout my study sessions, I used visual aids and wrote summaries in my own words, which reinforced these concepts effectively. Revisiting what carotenemia is — a condition caused by excessive intake of dietary carotene — also proved useful since such details can differentiate between similar-sounding conditions in the test. To anyone prepping for TEAS 2026, I recommend breaking down science topics into manageable parts, practicing active recall, and revisiting notes regularly. Focusing on the integumentary system not only simplifies the vast biology material but also builds a solid foundation for other anatomy-related themes on your exam.
