It’s a process where special ink turns into a gas when heated and permanently dyes the material. This is why you get such a vibrant, long-lasting finish that won't peel or crack – perfect for phone cases that get a lot of daily use! Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll typically need to start your own custom phone case journey: Sublimation Printer: This isn't your regular inkjet! You need a printer specifically designed for sublimation, or one that can be converted. I invested in one that has been a game-changer for my projects. Sublimation Ink & Paper: These are crucial. Regular inks won't work. The sublimation paper holds the ink and releases it under heat. Heat Press Machine: This is where the magic happens! It applies consistent heat and pressure. Mine is a clamshell type, and it's super reliable. Make sure it can handle the size of your phone case blanks. Phone Case Blanks: You need special sublimation-ready phone cases. These usually have a polymer coating that the sublimation ink can bond with. They come in all sorts of models, from iPhones to Androids. Protective Paper/Butcher Paper: To protect your heat press from any ink bleed-through.
