How to Draw Ears | Art Study Anatomy Lab (Part 1)

I’m breaking the ears down into 2 main shapes here but there are more shapes found in the ear. I find it easier to draw them on a “case by case” basis because ears can look extremely different for different individuals, however these two shapes can almost always be spotted and provide a good starting point.

I usually start off by sketching out that “C” shape (thus marking out where the top and bottom of the ear will be) treating it more like a 3D rubber band in perspective, and then sketch in the “Y” using the helix as a reference point. It helps to look at the shadows as much as the lighter areas

Once those two main shapes are in, it’s a lot easier to sketch in the rest of the ear using a

reference!
