What is your unpopular opinion(s) on fragrance?

I love fragrance and I’ve tried a lot!! I have some options on some fragrances that might be unpopular!!

My first unpopular opinion is that some inexpensive fragrances are better than high end!! Some expensive fragrances are just not worth it!!

Second unpopular opinion is that designer fragrances are lowkey always a let down! There’s some that are good but majority of the time they’re mid. Who else agrees??

Last unpopular option is that a sandalwood note ruins the fragrance for me. Everytime this note is in a fragrance I never end up liking it.

Let me know your unpopular opinions on fragrances! Do you agree with mine or do you have other thoughts??

... Read moreWhen diving into the world of fragrances, it's common to see loyalty towards high-end designer brands, but many true fragrance enthusiasts find that the best scents aren’t always the priciest. Inexpensive fragrances have been gaining popularity for their surprising quality and longevity, often outperforming some luxury options. Brands like Kayali, with their 50ml bottles boasting 80% volumetric alcohol, deliver amazing scent profiles that last long throughout the day, defying the notion that price always equals quality. Designer fragrances also face criticism for being 'mid-tier' more often than not. While some do stand out with unique compositions and lasting appeal, the majority tend to follow safe, crowd-pleasing formulas targeting mass audiences, which can lead to common, uninspired scents. Perfume lovers sometimes feel that stepping outside these mainstream designer lines opens up a world of niche or indie brands with more character and distinction. One fragrant note that's notably polarizing is sandalwood. Though prized in many classic and oriental perfumes for its creamy, woody warmth, sandalwood can also overwhelm other notes or simply not appeal to certain preferences. For some, this note derails the entire fragrance, making it hard to enjoy or wear comfortably. This shows how subjective fragrance appreciation can be and highlights the importance of sample testing before committing to a bottle. Popular scents mentioned in discussions include Nishane’s Coconutsun, Mancera Roses, Kayali Vanilla, Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Grand Soir, and others that embody diverse fragrance families, showing that both niche and affordable lines can cater to various tastes. Eau Fraiche variants of some fragrances also offer lighter, refreshing alternatives, expanding options for fragrance lovers. Ultimately, sharing unpopular fragrance opinions fosters a more inclusive community where users feel free to express what scents truly resonate with them, regardless of brand status or general market hype. Your personal experience is valuable—do you prefer an unexpected budget-friendly gem? Does sandalwood turn you away? Join the conversation and explore a richer, more authentic appreciation of fragrance.
