What skincare products are worth the money?

There’s so many skincare products available so how do we know which one is actually worth the money? Also which product do we think is worth spending more money on?

Is an expensive luxury moisturizer worth the money compared to a cheaper drugstore moisturizer?

I usually like to read reviews and see what people are saying about a product. Honestly if the product is pretty and people like it then I’ll try it!

Let me know what qualities you look for a product to make it worth while so I can do the same!

... Read moreWhen deciding whether a skincare product is worth the money, I always consider both ingredients and user feedback. For example, night serums like the widely praised T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Night Serum with 10% AHA and 1% BHA are game changers for refining and retexturizing skin texture. The acids work by gently exfoliating dead skin cells, helping reduce fine lines and promoting a smoother complexion. Based on my experience and others’ reviews, night serums can truly enhance skin health over time, making them a worthwhile investment. Sunscreen is an absolute must-have product I never skip, and choosing one that offers broad spectrum SPF 50+ protection like Kiehl’s dermatologist-developed Better Screen™ with collagen peptides is crucial. Not only does it safeguard skin from harmful UV rays, but formulations with collagen peptides can also help visibly correct fine lines, combining protection with anti-aging benefits. Sunscreen is something I repurchase regularly because it supports long-term skin health and prevents premature aging—definitely worth spending on. When it comes to moisturizers, the debate between drugstore vs. luxury brands is common. While luxury creams such as La Mer’s Crème de La Mer boast rich textures and intense hydration, their hefty price tags don’t always guarantee dramatic results for everyone. I found that some mid-range moisturizers with active ingredients like collagen peptides or brightening extracts offer similar benefits without breaking the bank. It ultimately depends on your skin’s needs and how a product performs on your skin over time. Serums targeting dark spots and uneven tone, like Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum, are also a smart investment for anyone struggling with pigmentation concerns. Consistent use can lead to visible improvements, which enhances overall skin radiance. In my skincare journey, the qualities I look for before investing include proven active ingredients, positive and detailed user reviews, and formulations that address my specific skin concerns. Packaging and aesthetic appeal do influence my initial interest, but effectiveness remains the top priority. Products like night serums, broad-spectrum sunscreens, and brightening serums have shown me that spending a bit more upfront can provide long-term benefits and reduce the need for corrective treatments later. In summary, products with scientifically backed ingredients such as AHAs, BHAs, collagen, and antioxidants, coupled with good user feedback and consistent use, tend to be worth the money. Investing thoughtfully in these targeted skincare items can lead to healthier, more radiant skin without unnecessary overspending.

As a derm PA, I usually think skincare is “worth it” when the formula is effective, tolerable, and something you’ll actually use consistently. The products I’d prioritize spending on are sunscreen and targeted actives like retinoids, vitamin C, azelaic acid, or pigment serums depending on your goals. For moisturizers, expensive doesn’t always mean better. A drugstore moisturizer with ceramides, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or petrolatum can be just as effective for barrier support. So my rule: splurge on formulas that target a specific concern, but don’t feel like you need a luxury moisturizer for healthy skin.
