Happy Plants🪴
Your plants will be so much happier when you feed them real food, not just water! Give our all purpose plant food a try!
Have you ever tried to grow a plant in just water, hoping it would thrive forever? I know I have! When I first started my plant journey, I honestly thought a regular watering schedule was all my leafy friends needed. I'd put a struggling cutting in a cute jar of water on my windowsill, and for a while, it seemed happy. New roots would emerge, and I'd feel like a plant wizard. But after a few weeks or months, something always felt off. The leaves would start to look pale, growth would slow down, and they just didn't have that vibrant, healthy glow. That's when I realized what my plants were really trying to tell me – just like the little voice in my head, 'your plants called...they need real food, not just water!' It was a lightbulb moment. While water is absolutely essential for plant survival and can kickstart root development in propagation, it's not a complete meal. Think of it like us trying to live on just water – we might survive for a bit, but we wouldn't be healthy or energetic! For plants to truly grow big, strong, and beautiful, they need nutrients. These are the 'real food' that allows them to build strong cell walls, produce lush foliage, and even bloom. When you keep a plant solely in water, it's essentially living off its stored energy and whatever tiny minerals might be present in the water, which are usually not enough for long-term health. That's why even in sophisticated hydroponic systems, specially formulated nutrient solutions are always added to the water to ensure sustained growth. So, what's a plant parent to do? If you love propagating in water, that's fantastic for starting new plants! But once those roots are a couple of inches long, it's usually time to either transfer them to soil or start introducing a very diluted liquid plant food to their water if you want them to continue growing there. For plants already in soil, regular feeding is a game-changer. I personally noticed a huge difference in my indoor houseplants once I started incorporating an all-purpose plant food into my routine. They perked up, new leaves unfurled faster, and the colors became much more vivid. It's not about overfeeding, but consistent, appropriate nutrition. Always check the instructions on your plant food for the right dosage and frequency, as too much can actually harm your plants. My tip: start with half the recommended strength and see how your plants respond! How do you know if your plant is hungry? Common signs include yellowing leaves (especially older ones), stunted growth, weak stems, or a general lack of vigor. Sometimes, people mistake these for overwatering or underwatering, but often, it's a nutrient deficiency. There are many types of plant food out there – liquid, granular, slow-release spikes – each with their own benefits. For my indoor crew, I prefer a balanced liquid fertilizer that I can easily dilute and add during my regular watering. It’s all about listening to what your unique plant babies are telling you and giving them that extra boost they crave to flourish. Trust me, once you start feeding them properly, you'll see a transformation!
