📚 Title and Author: How to Love Someone without Losing your Mind by Todd Baratz, LMHC
🌟 Genre: Self Help/ Relationships
💬 Short Summary: The author is able to go through his own personal account through his own therapy, relationships, and counseling others to help the reader with being able to look at their own relationships, make changes and start communicating what they need and want. The author is also able to empower a new perspective with relationships and encourages making mistakes and growing, (no one is perfect) for the reader with giving specific real life examples. I really liked this book since there is exercises to help with gaining more self-understanding and awareness. I would recommend this book if you are wanting to change how you show up in relationships or if you have a hard time with advocating for yourself. This book does go through many suggestive themes too, but it is all apart of the human experience.
Key Point #1: “I am as I am treated”.
Key Point #2: One of my favorite questions that was asked in the book, “what guidance or advice did your parents give you about dating, relationships, and intimacy? What were there expectations of your future relationships?”
Key Point #3: There is a norm in culture now that looks at “red flags” as quirks/etc, what would it be like to talk about these things or be more curious about where the ick comes from?
⭐️Overall rating: 8.5/10: I liked a lot of the book and I did like the personal anecdotes there was just a point in the book, where I was like whoa that is a lot of information, but then I was able to get it and lean into what was coming up for me. My biggest gripe was I wanted there to be more examples or just include more exercises, since his are amazing!
