Upgrading Your Home: Kitchen Edition

Don’t you love when everything has a place and is in it? I was fed up with my under sink area being a MESS and did something about it. Everything is from Target or TJ Maxx, there’s no cleaning supplies yet because I’m making them all from scratch! (More on that later) I still need to add labels but I’m so much happier with how it looks under our sink! #organization #lemon8challenge

... Read moreHey everyone! Following up on my under-sink organization journey, I wanted to share some extra tips I've picked up, especially for keeping those cleaning detergents and general sink area sparkling. My goal was to not just organize under the sink but to make the whole cleaning process smoother, from dishwashing to quick counter wipe-downs. First off, for those of us who deal with cleaning detergents, whether it's in a drawer or tucked away, finding a system is key. I've found that using small, clear organizing bins works wonders, even for my DIY cleaning supplies. For instance, I have one bin specifically for dish soap refills, another for my homemade all-purpose spray, and a third for scrub brushes and sponges. This prevents everything from just rolling around. If you have a dedicated cleaning detergent drawer near your sink, consider using drawer dividers. It’s amazing how much neater things look when each bottle or sponge has its little compartment. And remember those cleaning brushes and cloths I mentioned? Having them easily accessible in a small caddy right by the sink, or even on a command hook inside the cabinet door, makes daily tidying so much easier. And speaking of the sink area itself, let’s talk about keeping it pristine. One of my personal habits now is a quick wipe-down after every use. It sounds simple, but it prevents grime from building up. For those tougher spots, especially around the faucet or where the sink meets the counter, a little bit of baking soda and vinegar (my go-to DIY cleaners!) works wonders. I always keep a spray bottle with this mix handy. Now, about that 'sink and stove on the same wall layout' query – even if we're not redesigning our whole kitchen, efficient organization makes a huge difference in these high-traffic zones. If your sink and stove are close, having your cleaning supplies neatly stored and easy to grab means you can quickly clean up spills while cooking without rummaging. For example, keeping paper towels or a dedicated cleaning cloth in one of those clear bins right by the plumbing pipes under the sink means I can swiftly tackle any mess. It’s all about creating flow and ease of access. Don't forget to label your bins, especially for your homemade concoctions! It saves time and prevents confusion. And remember, organizing isn't a one-time thing; it's an ongoing process. But with a few smart bins, some clever placement, and a commitment to keeping those cleaning supplies in their place, your kitchen sink area can stay beautifully organized, no matter how busy life gets!
