Intro: Without giving too much away it’s basically a spicy version of Beauty and the Beast.
My rating: 3.5/5
My review: I kind of have mix feelings about this book. I think I only gave it 3.5 out of 5 because my favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast. The plot was decent but the smut was kinda mediocre compared to some of her other books. Definitely not a bad read, but not my favorite.

... Read moreAfter diving into 'The Beast & His Beauty,' I found myself reflecting a lot on what makes a 'Beast' romance truly shine. This particular novel by Willow Winters promised a spicy take on the classic fairytale, and while it definitely delivered on the 'spicy' front, my feelings were a bit mixed.
For those curious about the age rating for books like this, it's definitely adult romance. We're talking explicit scenes and mature themes, so if you're looking for something sweet and innocent, this isn't it. The 'spicy romance' genre often pushes boundaries, and this book is no exception. It’s important to check content warnings if you have specific triggers, as dark retellings can sometimes delve into darker themes beyond just the romance.
The core idea of a Beauty and the Beast book or novel always intrigues me. What draws us to these stories of transformation, unlikely love, and finding beauty within? 'The Beast & His Beauty' tries to capture that essence, reimagining the classic tale with a modern, darker edge. I appreciated the effort to twist familiar elements, but I felt some parts of the plot could have been more developed to truly make the beast's transformation, or Belle's connection to him, feel truly earned and unique. It's not just about the physical attraction; for a B&B story to truly resonate, that emotional depth is key.
Speaking of romance in the beast world, this genre has so much potential! From paranormal romances with shifters to dark fantasy retellings, there's a huge variety. If you generally enjoy "my beast novel" types of stories, where the hero is gruff, scarred, or literally beastly, you'll find elements to like here. The allure of taming the beast, or even embracing the beast within both characters, is a powerful trope. I've read a few other books in this vein, and what sets the best ones apart is how they build the world and the internal struggles of the characters, not just the steamy scenes. While the smut in 'The Beast & His Beauty' was present, as I mentioned in my review, it didn't always hit the emotional high notes for me compared to some other authors in the genre or even other Willow Winters books.
It makes me wonder about other Willow Winters love story books. The OCR mentioned "THE KINGDOM" with a 3.5/5 rating too, which makes me think perhaps her style is just a bit different from my personal preference for 'spicy' reads. Her writing is certainly popular, and she's a Wall Street Journal & USA Today Bestselling Author, so she definitely has a dedicated fanbase for her dark and intense romances. For fans of deep, angsty reads, her books often deliver.
If you're delving into the Beauty and the Beast book universe, there are countless retellings out there, from contemporary to fantasy. My advice is to always read a few reviews to get a feel for the specific 'flavor' of the retelling—is it dark, light, historical, paranormal? Each author brings their own twist, and it's fun to explore the different interpretations. For 'The Beast & His Beauty,' it's definitely on the darker, spicier end of the spectrum, aiming for a more intense, explicit experience rather than a whimsical fairytale.
Ultimately, while 'The Beast & His Beauty' wasn't my absolute favorite, it was an interesting read for fans of the B&B trope who enjoy a lot of heat in their novels. It's a quick dive into a familiar story with an adult spin. If you've read it, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Did you agree with my take, or did it resonate with you more?
