Two birds, one stone!
Poor birds… but YAY frugality!!!! Casseroles are a great way to use the things that just sort of sit there week after week.. and they can be a wonderful balanced meal!!! Hash brown, canned veggies and chicken is courtesy of the food bank!!! Living with my grandpa and helping him by giving him money whenever we can, providing meals and cleaning means that the foodbank definitely helps make ends meet so that everyone has what they need in our crazy big family 💜 #lots of veggies #theresfoodathome #casserole #balancedmeals #frugalmom
Living frugally while ensuring nutritious meals for a large family can be challenging, but casseroles offer a simple and comforting solution. One of the best parts about casseroles is how flexible they are—you can combine what you have on hand, such as canned vegetables, hash browns, and protein like chicken, to create a satisfying meal. Using canned goods like cream of mushroom soup or condensed soups (as noted in the image text) can add rich flavor and moisture without extra effort or cost. Food banks provide invaluable support in stretching a budget, especially when feeding multiple people. Items from the food bank, combined with affordable staples, help to maintain balanced meals without sacrificing quality or nutrition. For instance, canned carrots and peas are not only economical but also contribute essential vitamins and fiber. Incorporating these into casseroles ensures a well-rounded plate. From personal experience, I’ve found that meal prepping casseroles in large batches saves time during hectic weekdays and reduces food waste since leftovers can be reheated. Adding a variety of vegetables also keeps meals interesting and colorful. Living with and supporting an elder family member, like a grandparent, adds motivation to be resourceful and careful with expenses while providing wholesome, home-cooked meals. Involving family members in meal prep can be rewarding and educational, teaching frugality and cooking skills. Don’t hesitate to experiment with different combinations of veggies, proteins, and soups to tailor casseroles to your family’s taste preferences. Ultimately, casseroles are a practical and loving way to nourish those you care about, proving that with a little creativity, you really can kill two birds with one stone—fighting food waste and feeding a family well.
