Having a ESA dog 🐕
For these past few days I have felt like a layer of stress lifted off of me ever since I got Apollo! My mind feels less cluttered with worrying and when I come home from work he’s excited to see me ! It brings me less anxiety and scary nights trying to sleep when he’s there or less worried mornings and afternoons when I’m home alone. PTSD will take a long time to heal from but with Apollo next to me I know we’ll get there and better 🥹🫶🏼🐾

Emotional support animals (ESAs) provide essential companionship and comfort to individuals dealing with mental health challenges, including PTSD. Studies have shown that dogs, in particular, can be incredibly effective in alleviating feelings of loneliness, reducing anxiety levels, and providing a sense of security during distressing times. Interactions with dogs can stimulate the release of oxytocin, a hormone that enhances feelings of bonding and happiness, while lowering cortisol levels associated with stress. Having an ESA like Apollo not only assists in emotional healing but also encourages a routine that fosters physical activity, as that’s a vital part of being a responsible pet owner. Daily walks, playtime, and even the simple act of grooming can enhance mood and well-being. Those with ESAs often report an increase in motivation and social interactions, which can be crucial in healing from PTSD. The unconditional love and support offered by an ESA makes a significant difference in navigating daily life, helping to manage symptoms and gradually build resilience. So, if you're considering getting an emotional support animal, it’s essential to assess compatibility and the commitment required to nurture this bond.
