When I was young, like many others, I imagined I would be married by the age of 18. But life rarely goes exactly as planned, and now at 22, I'm not even dating anymore. This shift in my personal timeline taught me a lot about expectations and true happiness. Growing up, societal and cultural portrayals of love and marriage often set rigid timelines. Many of us feel pressured to achieve milestones like marriage by a certain age, thinking that life has a fixed script. However, turning 22 without being in a relationship or engaged has opened my eyes to the importance of focusing on self-growth and understanding what I truly want from relationships rather than simply rushing to meet an arbitrary age milestone. Living in Michigan, I've noticed many of my peers experiencing similar feelings—redefining what success and happiness mean outside traditional timelines.
