What you don’t see on social media!

Let's admit it..

There are so many hair-tearing moments in our motherhood journey that we don't usually share on our social media feed, n 1 common struggle I feel most mothers (of more than 1 child) face in our daily parenting is staying sane while dealing with the constant bickering n fighting amongst siblings..

Do u also face the same issue?

While I don't have the perfect solution for this, below are some useful tips that I have found online which I aim to practice with my children, n may be helpful for u too:-

• SET CLEAR EXPECTATIONS:

Establish rules for respectful communication n consequences for breaking them

• ENCOURAGE EMPATHY:

Help your children understand each other's feelings n perspectives

• FOSTER TEAMWORK:

Assign tasks or activities that require cooperation

• TEACH CONFLICT RESOLUTION:

Model n teach problem-solving skills, such as compromise n negotiation, to help siblings resolve disputes independently

• PROVIDE INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION:

Spend quality time with each child separately to reinforce their unique identities n reduce rivalry

• PRACTICE POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT:

Acknowledge n praise instances of cooperation n kindness between siblings

• LEAD BY EXAMPLE:

Model respectful communication n conflict resolution strategies in your own interactions with your children n partner

My mantra to the children is always

"SPEAK to others how you would like to be spoken to, TREAT others how you would like to be treated"

Do u have a parenting mantra too? Share them with me!😊

... Read moreSibling rivalry is one of those parenting challenges that often goes unseen on social media, where people tend to showcase only the good moments. From my own experience, the constant bickering and fighting among children can sometimes feel overwhelming and exhausting. I found that setting clear expectations early on about respect and communication helped create a framework where children understood boundaries better. Encouraging empathy has been a game-changer for our family. When children learn to see situations from their siblings' perspectives, the intensity of disputes can lessen. Activities that require cooperation, like shared chores or creative projects, also foster teamwork and help children bond beyond rivalry. One important lesson I've learned is the power of teaching conflict resolution skills. Instead of immediately stepping in to solve disputes, guiding children to negotiate and compromise empowers them with lifelong social skills. Additionally, spending one-on-one quality time with each child helps reinforce their unique identity and reduces feelings of competition. Positive reinforcement cannot be overstated. Recognizing and praising moments when siblings cooperate or show kindness encourages more of the same behavior. Lastly, modeling respectful communication and healthy conflict management in our own interactions as parents sets a practical example for the children to follow. For anyone dealing with sibling rivalry, remember it’s normal and manageable with patience and consistent effort. The mantra we live by is simple but powerful: "Speak to others how you would like to be spoken to, treat others how you would like to be treated." Sharing struggles honestly and exchanging tips with other parents can create a supportive community that eases the parenting journey.
