Why do I always crash at 6PM?? ðŸ˜
sleep, eat, or move… by 6PM my energy is gone. Like completely done for the day ðŸ˜
I can’t tell if it’s burnout, my body’s natural rhythm, or just adult life catching up.
Does this happen to anyone else too? 👀
What time do you usually crash during the day?
Oh my goodness, I totally feel you on that 6 PM energy crash! It’s like my body just clocks out right when I need it most, even when I think I’ve been doing everything right – eating healthy, getting enough sleep, yet still, I'm 'dead by sunset.' It's a frustrating feeling, and it makes you wonder what's really going on. I’ve been trying to understand why this happens to me, and I've found a few common culprits that might be contributing to our collective evening fatigue. It’s rarely just one thing, but often a combination. First up, let’s talk about blood sugar. I used to think as long as I ate, I was fine. But if my lunch is heavy on refined carbs and sugar, I notice a significant dip in my energy a few hours later. It’s like a sugar rush followed by a crash, leaving me feeling sluggish and unfocused well into the evening. Now, I try to balance my meals with protein, healthy fats, and fiber to keep my blood sugar levels more stable throughout the day. A handful of nuts or an apple with almond butter as an afternoon snack has been a game-changer for me. Another surprisingly common factor is dehydration. We often underestimate how much water we actually need. I used to think I was drinking enough, but sometimes that afternoon fatigue is just my body's way of telling me I need more fluids. I've started keeping a big water bottle on my desk and making sure to sip from it constantly. It’s a simple change, but it really helps ward off that drained feeling. Then there’s the natural circadian rhythm. Our bodies are actually designed to have a slight dip in energy in the mid-afternoon. It’s totally normal! Instead of fighting it with another coffee, I've found that sometimes a quick 10-15 minute walk outside, or even just stepping away from my screen for a short mindful break, can make a huge difference. Fresh air and a change of scenery can be incredibly invigorating. And let's not forget about stress. If I've had a particularly demanding or stressful day, my body is working overtime, and by 6 PM, it's just completely depleted. Chronic stress can mess with our cortisol levels, leading to that 'body clocks out' feeling. I've been trying to incorporate some gentle winding-down activities in the late afternoon, like deep breathing exercises or listening to calm music, to help my nervous system relax before the evening hits. Finally, it's not just about the amount of sleep, but the *quality*. Even if I'm getting seven or eight hours, if it's restless or interrupted, I'll still feel exhausted. Focusing on sleep hygiene – like dimming the lights an hour before bed, avoiding screens, and having a consistent bedtime routine – has made my sleep feel more restorative. While I still have my days where I feel totally zapped, these small adjustments have really helped me combat that dreaded 6 PM energy crash. What are your go-to strategies for battling the afternoon and evening energy slump?

Yes, I would say around 6 or 7 after I finish eating dinner I start to get super sleepy. I try not to nap though or else I'm up for the rest of the night lol
