it was definitely a fail lmao
we have wayyy more practicing to do #rollingskating Houston
It's easy to get discouraged when things don't go perfectly, especially when you're trying something new like roller skating! We all have those moments where we feel like we've hit a wall, or in my case, hit the ground. My recent attempt at roller skating in Houston was definitely a learning experience, and let's just say, I've got wayyy more practicing to do! But you know what? That's perfectly okay. Learning from our mistakes isn't just a cliché; it's a fundamental part of growth, whether it's on skates, in a new hobby, or even in our daily lives. When I look back at my 'fail' session, I don't see a disaster. Instead, I see valuable data points. Each wobble, each slip, each unexpected sit-down on the rink floor tells me something. Was my weight distributed incorrectly? Was I looking down instead of forward? Was I too tense? These are the questions that turn a 'fail' into a lesson. Here’s how I’m trying to embrace this learning process, and maybe these tips can help you too when you face your own challenges: Acknowledge, Don't Dwell: It's okay to feel a bit frustrated for a moment, but don't let it consume you. Acknowledging the mistake and its impact is the first step, then quickly pivot to problem-solving. Analyze Objectively: Try to replay the moment in your mind. What exactly happened leading up to the mistake? Sometimes, if you can, recording yourself can be incredibly helpful. For my roller skating, I might ask a friend to take a quick video so I can see my posture or foot placement. Break It Down: If the overall task feels too big, like 'not falling while roller skating,' break it into smaller, manageable parts. Maybe I need to work on just gliding on one foot, or perfecting my stopping technique. Focusing on one micro-skill at a time makes improvement feel less daunting. Seek Guidance & Observe: This is where the 'online learning from mistakes' aspect truly shines. Even though I'm practicing a physical skill, I can hop online to watch tutorials from experienced roller skaters. Seeing how others achieve what I'm struggling with gives me new perspectives and techniques to try. Plus, I love seeing other people's 'fail' compilations – it's a great reminder that everyone starts somewhere! Patience and Persistence Are Key: Mastery doesn't happen overnight. There will be good days and bad days. The important thing is to keep showing up, keep trying, and keep applying the lessons learned from previous mistakes. Every minute spent practicing, even if it feels clumsy, is a step forward. Celebrate Small Wins: Don't wait until you're a pro to feel good about your progress. Did I manage to skate a little further without wobbling? Did I recover from a near-fall gracefully? These small victories add up and keep the motivation going. It's all about enjoying the journey, stumbles and all! Houston's rinks might see a few more tumbles from me, but also a lot more progress. What mistakes have you turned into learning opportunities lately?
