Why the US is interested in Greenland
Trump’s spectacle about Greenland has everything to do with resources and exploitation.
It has nothing to do with “national security”.
Greenland is just fine with being under Danish rule.

Greenland’s “Home rule” was established in 1979, and even more autonomy and independence was achieved in a referendum in 2009. Whether Greenland eventually becomes a completely independent nation remains to be seen. Until then, Denmark still controls some policy areas, including foreign affairs, security, and financial policy.
Concerning U.S. interests: stay out of Greenland, Canada, the Panama Canal, etc.
