Every single day, without fail, you can find her perched on the backrest, often looking down intently at my screen, as if she's supervising my work or trying to catch digital mice!
I've noticed she has a few favorite positions. Sometimes she's just lying there, completely relaxed, soaking up the warmth from my laptop screen or the sunlight coming through the window. Other times, she's all stretched out, front paws dangling, making herself as comfortable as humanly (or cat-ly) possible. It’s hilarious how she contorts herself to fit, or sometimes just takes up the entire backrest so I can barely lean back.
I've often wondered, why do cats love office chairs so much? I have a feeling it's a combination of things. Firstly, the height! Cats love being elevated; it gives them a good vantage point to observe their kingdom (aka, my apartment). My black office chair offers her the perfect throne. Secondly, the comfort – these chairs are designed to be ergonomic for humans, but apparently, they're pretty good for cats too! The soft fabric and padded backrest must feel like a luxurious napping spot. And let's be honest, the fact that it smells like me probably adds to its appeal. Cats love their owner's scent, and what better place to snuggle than on something that smells distinctly 'human'? Plus, if I've been working, the chair might retain a little warmth, which is a big bonus for a cozy cat.
For anyone else whose furball has claimed their workspace, I totally get it! I've learned to adapt. Sometimes I have to gently nudge Mia over, or if she's really settled, I just find an alternate spot to sit. I've even considered getting her a little cat bed that attaches to the desk or a window perch so she has her own elevated space nearby. That way, she can still 'supervise' without completely monopolizing my workstation. It’s a small price to pay for such an adorable office companion, right? It makes my work-from-home days so much brighter having her around, even if it means sharing my seating. Does your cat have a weird favorite spot too? Share your stories!
