Pool Party Decay

I always run into abandoned community pools. I always found it a little unsanitary, but to have a complete downfall of majority of them was always very interesting to me. The two things that come into my mind when I think about community pools are the one that we had that was so tiny in my town and I remember we just stopped going, but the park was still open, but I had so many amazing memories and we would meet up with the Garcias and I would play with all of the siblings alongside my own. The other memory that I have is actually from a movie and I know that you guys know this scene because it’s very famous, but the scene in the sandlot. If you know what I’m talking about, then you know, lol.

... Read moreStumbling upon abandoned community pools has always sparked a strange mix of feelings in me – curiosity, nostalgia, and a little bit of unease due to the unsanitary conditions. From personal experience, these pools symbolize more than just a place to swim; they are silent witnesses to countless community stories and childhood memories. For instance, the small, neglected pool in my hometown was where many of us spent our summers until we eventually stopped visiting, while the surrounding park remained open for the public. What fascinates me the most about these decayed pools is how they mirror the changing dynamics of communities. Often, factors such as budget cuts, changes in population demographics, or shifts in community priorities lead to the downfall of these once-bustling gathering spots. Despite their abandonment, these areas retain an eerie beauty and evoke powerful reminiscences, such as movie scenes that many can instantly recognize — like the iconic pool scene from "The Sandlot," which perfectly captures childhood adventure and friendship. Reflecting further on my own experiences, abandoned pools serve as portals to the past, reminding us of simpler times filled with laughter, friendship, and connection. They also encourage us to think about community involvement and the importance of maintaining public spaces for future generations. While some might see decay and neglect, I see stories waiting to be rediscovered and perhaps a chance to revive these spaces with new purpose. If you ever come across an abandoned community pool, I encourage you to look beyond the surface. Embrace the memories, the history, and the stories encapsulated within the cracked tiles and faded lifeguard signs. These sites reflect our collective past and remind us of the vibrant communities we once shared.

Nothing remains the same. years don't erode memories....but physical item are always transitory. You memories don't erode...you body does. memories are timeless 🔥
