Eyes of the Unholy (Evie James)
Eyes of the Unholy
Evie James
Evie James did it again. Swoon. She has made me a die hard Mafia fan. IN ABSOLUTE LOVE. We continue where book one ended, but now we get to journey along with Lucian. Evie James weaves together a world of complex characters, emotional traumas (she needs to stop making me cry), and the men who seek righteous justice for those who cannot stand up for themselves. They are all blended seamlessly within a relatable narrative of the world we live in today. Where men with power and money believe they are above everything and the men who stand together side by side to stop them. If morally grey is your favorite color, then this is definitely a series worth reading. Evie James knows how to keep the pacing on point. Between the action and the moments we need to stand and hold space for the characters to break open to one another and us as the audience witnessing their pain and healing. *chefs kiss*
As an avid reader of Mafia romance and dark, morally complex stories, I found Eyes of the Unholy an engrossing follow-up to the first book in Evie James's captivating series. This installment deepens the intrigue by shifting the focus onto Lucian, a character whose strength and vulnerabilities make the story feel incredibly personal and real. One aspect I appreciated was how Evie James skillfully layers the emotional traumas each character carries, allowing readers to connect with their struggles and motivations. The narrative highlights the harsh realities of a world where power and money often corrupt, but also celebrates the brotherhood and justice sought by those who refuse to stand by. This juxtaposition adds a compelling texture to the story, making it more than just a typical Mafia romance. I particularly admired how the pacing balanced suspenseful action sequences with meaningful moments of emotional healing and openness among the characters. It felt authentic to witness their pain and growth, reminding me of real friendships and loyalties that are tested and forged in the crucible of adversity. If you enjoy stories with morally grey heroes—those who walk the fine line between right and wrong—this series will definitely appeal. Each page left me eager to find out what would happen next yet also wanting to pause and absorb the intense emotional beats. Evie James’s writing truly stands out for its ability to pull readers into a world that is both brutal and tender, flawed yet hopeful. Overall, Eyes of the Unholy is an excellent continuation of a series that skillfully explores complex human emotions amidst a dangerous, high-stakes Mafia world. It’s a must-read for fans of the genre who crave stories with depth, heart, and authentic character development.
