Unpopular Opinion: Struggle Isn’t a Legacy

Growing up, I noticed how my parents' constant money worries shaped my attitude toward work and finances. The idea that struggle was a rite of passage was deeply ingrained in our family. However, over time, I realized that inheriting financial hardship doesn’t have to be our legacy. Taking proactive steps, like setting up a life insurance policy with cash value or an Indexed Universal Life (IUL) policy, can provide both protection and growth opportunities for our children. This ‘financial umbrella’ not only shields them during unexpected storms but also helps build lasting wealth. In my experience, shifting mindset from surviving to thriving involves intentional education. Teaching kids about budgeting, investing, and risk management equips them with tools to avoid the stress and debt many endure. It's about breaking the cycle of hardship and empowering the next generation. I also found that early planning is essential. Starting young lets compound growth and protection work hand-in-hand over decades, increasing the chances of financial independence later in life. Witnessing my child gain confidence knowing there’s a solid financial safety net has been deeply rewarding. Ultimately, it’s a choice every parent can make—do we pass on the weight of struggle or the strength of preparation? Financial storms are coming, but with thoughtful action, our children can weather them with resilience and hope.
