Bad Gift?
Okay, so you saw my Corgi's epic reaction to his 'bad gift,' right? Honestly, I thought it was sweet, but apparently, anything that isn't a bag of crunchy, delicious 'treats!!!' is an absolute fail in his book! It got me thinking, how many of us pet parents have been there? Cute for *us*, but often met with a bewildered 'what is this?' from them. So, what actually makes a 'bad gift' for a dog? From my experience, it's anything that's not edible, not durable enough to withstand their enthusiasm, or just plain boring. Think about it: a squeaky toy that breaks in five minutes? Bad gift. A plush toy that's instantly de-stuffed? Also bad. A pretty collar they already have ten of? Definitely not their top pick. The moments captured in the OCR, like 'wait,' 'ah!', and '???' perfectly capture that moment of canine confusion and mild disappointment when a gift doesn't hit the mark. What dogs really want are things that engage their senses and fulfill their instincts. High-value 'treats!!!' are always a winner – who can argue with a delicious snack? Interactive puzzle toys filled with those same 'treats!!!' are fantastic because they provide mental stimulation. Durable chew toys that last for weeks, not minutes, are also a huge hit. And let’s not forget the simple joy of a new ball or a rope toy for a good tug-of-war session. It's about understanding their world and what truly brings them joy, not just what looks good to us humans. I've learned my lesson! Now, when I say 'I got that for you,' I make sure it’s something I know he'll genuinely love. Sometimes it’s the simplest things that bring them the most joy. A long walk, extra belly rubs, or yes, a handful of his favorite 'treats!!!' can be the best gifts of all.
