Chronie Warrior

Hey, I'm Lesley, and I have Crohn's disease. I was diagnosed in November of 2017, and I've lived the past 5 years coping and advocating in my own way. I represent the face of a person fighting an incurable invisible disease, the smile, and energy of someone who "looks to be ok" on the outside but who is really sick and in pain most days on the inside. The face of a POC fighting a disease that usually is seen as only being a "Caucasian disease," the face of a warrior that lives with Crohn's disease but doesn't wear a colostomy or ileostomy bag, the face of a woman who has endured numerous of long days and nights fighting in the hospital; and 4 hrs + getting immunosuppressive drugs infused monthly just to keep her going. But most importantly, it's the face of someone who still tries to see the beauty in herself despite all that Crohn's and other invisible illnesses have caused her to endure.

With this week being IBD awareness week and today ending it, I want to encourage you all to take the time to listen and hear the hearts of those who choose to speak of their own life stories and experiences of living life with a disease that causes unpredictability, instability, and turmoil; while at the same time causing us to dance on the hopes of resilience and faith. To all my warriors, continue speaking up and sharing, and to those listening and watching, thank you for opening your hearts to learn something new.
