For many Sec 3 scholars, this period coincides with the End of Year examination season, making it tough to decide whether to stay back and focus on studies or return home for a mental recharge. From chatting with friends, I found that out of 30 scholars, only 11 are traveling home, while the remaining 19 are staying at the hostel to prepare for their exams. Some shared they prefer studying in the quiet of the hostel, avoiding travel time to maximize revision hours. Others, like myself, feel the need for a change of environment and the comfort of family, even if it means losing a few hours to travel. One practical consideration is personal commitments during the break—appointments or needing to reset one's energy must factor in. It's a balancing act between academic responsibilities and personal well-being. For juniors wondering whether to head home next year during the September recess, my advice is to assess your study schedule, exam preparedness, and personal needs. Some find they study better at home where they feel relaxed; others perform best away from distractions. Also, take advantage of the break to manage stress and maintain motivation. Ultimately, this episode gives a genuine glimpse into the lives of Sec 3 scholars grappling with holiday decisions amid their academic journey—sharing perspectives that could make your own choice clearer.
