One effective approach is to consistently supervise your dog during walks and immediately redirect their attention if they try to scavenge. Using commands like "leave it" or "no" paired with positive reinforcement can train your dog to avoid forbidden items. Another tip is to manage your dog's environment at home by securing trash bins with lids or placing them in cabinets where dogs can't access them. Providing plenty of healthy dog snacks throughout the day can reduce their temptation to seek out unwanted foods. It's also helpful to exercise your dog regularly; a tired dog is less likely to rummage through garbage out of boredom or excess energy. Finally, if your dog’s garbage eating persists, consider consulting a veterinarian or a professional trainer to address possible behavioral or dietary causes. By applying these tips, you can protect your dog from potential health risks associated with eating garbage, like poisoning or digestive problems, while also strengthening your bond through consistent training and care.

I had to stop giving my pups organic baked sweet potatoes. They are very high in sugar and were causing stinky yeast between their toes which made them lick their paws raw. I stopped feeding them it and the yeast went away. I now give them single ingredient collagen chew sticks that have amazingly cleaned off all plague naturally from their teeth.
