Today in History: The Battle of Iwo Jima Begins
On this day in history, in 1945, the U.S. Marines initiated their invasion of the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. It was one of the deadliest battles in the history of the Marines. The battle lasted 36 days, from February 19, 1945 to March 26, 1945. Today we honor those who served and sacrificed.
