And that’s why I am still single
I’ve often found that being single isn’t just about the absence of a partner, but also about the moments of self-reflection that come with the experience. For instance, a lot of my realizations happen when I’m at the gym. There’s this funny yet revealing contrast between how I think I present myself and how others actually see me. One particular instance that always sticks with me is when I imagine I look confident and attractive while working out, but in reality, someone might just be noticing how tired or awkward I might appear. This disconnect between perception and reality can sometimes explain why the dating world feels tricky. It’s easy to assume that if you put yourself out there, things will just fall into place. But often, the way others perceive us in everyday settings like the gym doesn’t always match our intentions or self-image. I believe this awareness is crucial in understanding why some of us are single longer than we might want to be. Moreover, being single has given me the opportunity to focus on personal growth. Observing these small day-to-day social cues has helped me become more mindful and open about who I am. Instead of rushing into a relationship, I’m learning to embrace this time to understand my own complexities — including the humorous realities of how I might be seen when I least expect it. So, staying single isn’t a failure or something to be ashamed of; it’s part of a journey. A journey where recognizing these little humorous truths about ourselves can lead to deeper self-acceptance and, eventually, more genuine connections when the time is right.
