Answer your phone when I'm calling.

Eh we all know short clips are what actually works so this is the chorus from the full song I posted yesterday. The desperation of the man that wrote this song 20-some years ago is embarrassing. That guy was pretty pathetic but I guess it's all a learning experience. I really didn't understand relationships when I wrote this and I still don't but I've learned a few things since that time. As with most things in life, I had to make mistakes in order to learn.

I feel like I never really had a mentor or a confidant to guide me in personal matters like romantic relationships or even friendships. These skills don't come naturally to me for... reasons. Sometimes years would pass before I could play back memories with a clear understanding with a lesson at hand. Experience is the absolute best teacher but some of us are lucky enough to have a guide or close friends to direct our path. Not me. I'm stubborn about doing things my own way and following my own path but the problem with that is I'm usually going it alone. While it's isolating, it's also prone to errors with hard lessons since no one is there to give advice or even bounce ideas off of.

Maybe it stems from arrogance? I've been called arrogant at times which I don't disagree with though I have made an effort to be humble later in life which I highly recommend. Some say confidence isn't a problem if you can back it up and I think I can. For real, I don't care who you are, if you're willing to sing songs you wrote in front of strangers, you are more confident than most. It may not seem like it but you are. Even folks that don't show confidence on stage had the confidence to get up there in the first place.

Well, I'm not sure what my point is here but I have enjoyed writing these long descriptions which I never though I would. Maybe you enjoy reading it? I figure most don't get this far or read the description which compels me to share more stream-of-consciousness nonsense that's maybe too personal.

'We' is a track on my album 'Crushing Days' which are songs I wrote during my dating years (circa 1995 - 2005). Available now #songwriter #singer #guitar

... Read moreThe phrase "answer your phone when I'm calling" captures the yearning and mild frustration embedded in many relationships, where communication is key yet often falters. This theme resonates deeply with anyone who has experienced the vulnerability of reaching out and hoping to be heard. The artist’s reflection on past experiences from his dating years (1995-2005) gives us a window into a period of personal growth shaped by trial and error. Many listeners and readers can relate to the feeling of not having a mentor or confidant to help navigate the complex emotional terrain of relationships. It’s common for people to learn the hard way, making mistakes that teach valuable lessons but can also cause feelings of loneliness and isolation. The artist’s honesty about his stubbornness and arrogance, and how that influenced his journey, offers a genuine exploration of self-awareness and humility. Confidence is a major undertone here—not just in a general sense, but in the specific courage it takes to share personal songs publicly. Singing songs that unveil personal stories to strangers requires a special kind of bravery, illustrating that confidence often grows from vulnerability. For those interested in music that blends personal storytelling with authentic emotional expression, the album "Crushing Days" provides a nostalgic yet timeless look at the ups and downs of romantic relationships. The song "We," as part of this collection, serves as an authentic narrative about the impatience and longing for connection that defines human relationships. This reflection is a reminder that relationship skills aren’t innate for everyone and that the process of learning—whether through songs, stories, or personal experience—is essential. It encourages embracing imperfections and using them as stepping stones toward maturity. Ultimately, this candid exploration of growth through music and personal reflection can inspire listeners to appreciate their own journeys, embrace humility, and find strength in openness and confidence. If you resonate with songs about real-life lessons and raw emotional insight, "We" from "Crushing Days" offers both a meaningful listening experience and a conversation starter about the universal challenges of connecting with others.
