You know how some places just stick with you? Zakynthos was absolutely one of those for me! After seeing countless photos of Greece's 'otherworldly blue' waters, I finally made it to Zakynthos Island, and let me tell you, it completely redefined my idea of paradise. The original article perfectly captures the magic of Navagio Beach, with its dramatic white cliffs and that unreal turquoise water, but there's even more to discover! When planning my trip, I was really curious about how to experience this famous Shipwreck Beach. You can actually see it from two perspectives: from above at the viewpoint, which offers those iconic panoramic shots, and from below by taking a boat trip. Both are a must-do! The viewpoint is easily accessible by car or scooter, and it's free. Just be prepared for crowds, especially during peak season. For the boat trip, I booked a tour from Porto Vromi, which was a bit less crowded than starting from Zakynthos Town. The feeling of swimming in that 'milk blue' water right next to the shipwreck was truly a bucket-list moment. Make sure to choose a tour that allows you to swim and spend some time on the beach if that's what you're looking for, as some simply cruise by. But Zakynthos isn't just about Navagio. The island is dotted with incredible spots waiting to be explored. My personal favorite was exploring the Blue Caves. You can take smaller boats into these caves, and the way the sunlight reflects off the water, creating vibrant blue hues on the cave walls, is simply breathtaking. It’s a totally different kind of blue beauty than Navagio, more intimate and magical. I highly recommend booking a small group tour for this, as they can navigate into tighter spots. Beyond the iconic sights, I loved wandering through Zakynthos Town. It has a charming Venetian influence, with lovely cafes, shops, and a bustling harbor. I also discovered some quieter, less-known beaches like Xigia Beach, famous for its natural sulfur springs which are great for your skin! The smell can be a bit strong, but it's worth it for the unique experience and the therapeutic waters. For getting around, renting a car or a scooter is definitely the way to go. It gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace and stumble upon hidden gems. The roads can be winding, but the views are always rewarding. And don't even get me started on the food! Fresh seafood, traditional Greek salads, and local wines were highlights of every evening. If you're considering a trip to Zakynthos, my biggest tip is to go during the shoulder seasons (May-June or September-October). The weather is still fantastic, the water is warm, and you’ll avoid the peak summer crowds, making your experience even more serene and memorable. This island truly is a dream for anyone who loves stunning natural landscapes and wants to feel like they've stepped into a postcard. It’s an adventure that will leave you with memories of Greece's 'otherworldly blue' that will last a lifetime!
