That's why I've found that a dedicated weekend check-in isn't just a luxury, it's a necessity for my well-being. It’s my personal ritual for hitting the pause button and truly asking myself, 'How am I really doing?'
For me, it often starts with a quiet moment, sometimes even taking a reflective selfie, just like the one you might see, perhaps with my braided hair and favorite patterned glasses, capturing the moment of contemplation, even if I'm just in my car. It's about being present with myself.
So, if you're looking to dive a little deeper than just a quick thought, here's how I approach my weekend check-ins, and maybe it'll inspire yours:
1. Spiritual Check-In: Reconnect with Your Inner Peace
This isn't necessarily about religion, but about your sense of purpose and connection. I ask myself:
What brought me a sense of peace or joy this week?
Did I feel connected to something bigger than myself?
Are there any worries or anxieties weighing on my spirit that I need to release or pray over?
How can I nurture my spiritual side in the coming week? Maybe it’s a quiet walk in nature, some meditation, or reading an inspiring passage.
2. Emotional Check-In: Acknowledging Your Feelings
Our emotions are powerful indicators. It’s important to acknowledge them without judgment.
What emotions were most dominant for me this week? Joy, stress, frustration, gratitude?
What triggered these feelings? Can I identify patterns?
How did I respond to challenging emotions? Was it healthy?
Is there anything I need to forgive – myself or others – to move forward with a lighter heart? Sometimes just writing it down in a journal helps immensely.
3. Physical Check-In: Listening to Your Body
Our bodies are constantly sending signals, but we often ignore them.
How’s my energy level? Am I feeling energized or drained?
Am I nourishing my body with good food and enough water?
Did I move my body in a way that felt good this week?
Am I getting enough restful sleep? Are there any aches or pains I’ve been pushing aside?
What small physical self-care act can I commit to for the next few days?
After going through these prompts, I like to think about one small, actionable step I can take to improve my well-being in each area for the upcoming week. It doesn't have to be monumental, just something manageable.
The beauty of this check-in is also in sharing. Just like the scripture reminds us, 'Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,' – we don't have to carry it all alone. Sharing our reflections, even just an emoji, creates a powerful space for collective support and understanding. So, go ahead, take a moment for yourself this weekend, and let’s uplift each other!
