It’s so easy to label yourself 'non-photogenic,' but I've learned it's rarely about how you actually look. It's more about comfort, angles, and knowing a few simple tricks. One of my absolute game-changers has been understanding angles. Instead of facing the camera head-on, try turning your body slightly – about a 45-degree angle. This instantly makes you look more dynamic and often more flattering. For your face, a common trick is the 'turtle neck' or pushing your chin slightly forward and down. It helps define your jawline and avoids the dreaded double chin. Don’t be afraid to experiment to find your best side and preferred angle; everyone has one! Remember the smiling young woman in the picture? Notice how she's leaning casually, which creates a relaxed, natural pose. What about expressions? A forced smile can look, well, forced. Instead of saying 'cheese,' try thinking of something genuinely funny or a happy memory right before the shot. This often results in a more authentic, relaxed smile that reaches your eyes. If you struggle with what to do with your hands, you're not alone! Leaning on something, like a wooden table as shown in the OCR, or putting one hand casually in your pocket can look very natural. Natural, soft light (like near a window or outdoors on an overcast day) is almost always more flattering than harsh overhead or direct flash. Avoid strong shadows that can distort your features. Finally, building confidence is key to looking great in photos. Wear outfits that make you feel good, whether it's a comfy black cropped top and sweatpants or something more dressed up.
