Power, History, and Forgotten Victims

Hard truth: outrage over the Epstein files rings hollow when history tells a different story. For centuries, Black, brown, and Indigenous children were stolen, sold, abused, and separated—and many stayed silent. Protecting children isn’t partisan. If the concern is real, it must be consistent, not convenient or politically useful. Anything less isn’t justice, I t’s performance.

... Read moreReflecting on the history of systemic abuse against marginalized children reveals a pattern of injustice that extends far beyond recent scandals like the Epstein files. The deep-rooted exploitation of Black, brown, and Indigenous children throughout history was often ignored or minimized due to political convenience and selective outrage. From stolen Indigenous children forced into assimilation programs to the centuries of child trafficking and abuse among African American and Latino communities, these injustices are part of a painful legacy that demands acknowledgment and action. It is crucial that our commitment to protecting children transcends political divides and cultural biases. When outrage becomes selective, it undermines the real work needed to address systemic harm. True advocacy requires holding all systems of power accountable, whether they involve government institutions, social services, or historical injustices that continue to impact communities today. Personally, witnessing ongoing disparities in child welfare systems has reinforced my belief in consistent vigilance. I have seen communities rally around major news stories but often neglect the struggles faced daily by children of color who remain vulnerable and voiceless. For real change, society needs to embrace a holistic approach—understanding history, recognizing patterns of abuse, and ensuring no child is overlooked because of their race or background. By demanding transparency and justice through hashtags like #AccountabilityNow and #EndSelectiveOutrage, we remind ourselves and others that protecting children is a universal imperative. Advocates and allies must continue elevating forgotten victims' voices and promoting systemic reforms that challenge the roots of inequality. Only then can we move beyond performance and toward meaningful protection and healing for all children.
