... Read moreBuilding a sustainable healthy eating routine, especially with a busy schedule and conditions like PCOS, can feel like a huge challenge. I've found that consistency and smart planning are key, just like I mentioned with meal prepping! It's not just about what you eat, but also how you prepare for it. For instance, when I talk about meal prepping, I'm thinking about setting aside a couple of hours on a Sunday to cook staples like grilled chicken (perfect for my lunch!), baked sweet potatoes, and a big batch of whole grain pasta. Having these ready-to-go components makes it so much easier to assemble healthy meals throughout the week, even after a long day of my two jobs. You can portion out your chicken and pasta, add some chickpeas, and fresh cucumbers – quick, easy, and exactly what your body needs to recover and stay energized. Hydration is another huge one for me, and you might have noticed I constantly remind myself (and you!) to drink water! The OCR even highlighted "Don't forget to stay hydrated 6-8 cups a day," which is a fantastic target. I personally aim for at least 64 ounces daily, sometimes more if I'm particularly active. Water helps with everything from digestion to energy levels and can be especially important for managing PCOS symptoms. Sometimes I add a squeeze of lemon or cucumber slices to keep it interesting, or enjoy an organic juice blend like the beet, carrot, ginger, and celery one I mentioned, which is packed with nutrients. Speaking of PCOS, while my daily meal plan focuses on whole foods, I also pay attention to foods that support hormonal balance. Things like healthy fats from avocado oil and seeds (cashews, almonds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, pepita seeds from my snack!) are incredibly beneficial. I also lean towards low-glycemic options like sweet potatoes and brown rice to help manage blood sugar. The OCR also picked up on 'Probiotics/B12' and 'D3/Zinc' – I find supplements like these can be really helpful in filling nutritional gaps and supporting overall well-being, especially with PCOS. It's always best to chat with your doctor about what's right for you, but these have been a game-changer for my energy and gut health. Finally, while I aim for about 2000 calories and 100 grams of protein to support my 'GymGirly' lifestyle and manage PCOS, everyone's needs are different. If you're looking to lose weight, you might adjust your portion sizes slightly, focusing on a moderate calorie deficit. For muscle gain, you might increase your protein and overall calories, perhaps adding another healthy snack or slightly larger portions of complex carbs. The key is to listen to your body and make gradual, sustainable changes. It’s all about finding what works for your lifestyle and your goals, remembering that whole, unprocessed foods are your best allies.
