Review time: Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson

5⭐️

Alright what can I say… I finished this a bit ago but slacking on posting my thoughts. This is officially my first Brandon Sanderson book and I loved it . I felt a range of emotions in the book. This is a great dip into epic fantasy. The magic system in this book is absolutely unique with these spores and all their unique properties. Not to mention a bunch of seas made from different spores?! Even with it being quite different .. Sanderson really does a great job describing it and really building the world. I really loved the world even though I wasn’t sure I was gunna like it because it just wasn’t what I excepted. It was so different from anything I have read and the character development was beautiful. I loved seeing Tress become a confident pirate… yes there are freaking pirates in this book and I loved it. Something about pirates just screams we are going on an epic adventure.. the journey starts by her going to save the boy she loves and turns into a quest of finding herself and it’s absolutely beautiful. I can’t wait to read more from Brandon Sanderson. All I have to say is just try it out.. if you love pirates, scheming, plot twists, magic, a dragon and a goofy storyteller.. then this book is for you.. I think if you are nervous to get into fantasy this is a great starter.. 5 freaking stars and the mood board is to convince you guys to read this! Favorite book of the year I think 🖤👏🏼⭐️

... Read moreWhen I first picked up 'Tress of the Emerald Sea' by Brandon Sanderson, honestly, the book cover alone had me completely hooked! There’s something so enchanting and richly detailed about the artwork that perfectly hints at the whimsical yet adventurous journey inside. As a fellow reader, I often find myself drawn to books with visually striking covers, and this one certainly delivers. It instantly paints a picture that makes you wonder about the unique world within – those twisted trees, the enigmatic 'green moon' hinted at in the mood board, and the distinct sense of an alien spore-sea all scream 'epic adventure' the moment you lay eyes on it. I remember feeling so excited just looking at it, imagining what kind of magic and mystery lay ahead for Tress. It’s no wonder so many people are actively searching for 'Tress of the Emerald Sea wallpaper' or high-resolution images of the cover art for their screens; it’s truly a piece of art in itself that perfectly captures the book's essence. The OCR even picked up on the 'nine-panel mood board' featuring elements like a 'blonde woman', a 'person before a green moon', and a 'pirate rappelling' – and that's precisely the vibrant, adventurous vibe the cover and the entire story evoke. You can almost feel the salt spray and the strange, vibrant magic emanating from those seas made of spores. The 'old map' and 'green foliage' elements from the mood board further transport you, hinting at unexplored territories and lush, fantastical landscapes. Beyond the stunning visuals, what makes this Brandon Sanderson novel shine, especially for someone contemplating their first dive into epic fantasy, is how incredibly approachable his world-building is. While the concept of 'seas of spores' sounds initially complex, he weaves it into the narrative so seamlessly and with such vivid descriptions that you’re never lost. You don't just read about the different spores and their unique properties; you can almost see and feel them, becoming part of the world. It’s a masterclass in making the fantastical feel real, graspable, and utterly immersive. The sense of discovery, both for Tress as a character and for the reader, is palpable on every page. And let’s wholeheartedly talk about the character development and the heartwarming themes. Tress’s journey from a quiet, sheltered girl to a confident pirate captain is incredibly inspiring and beautifully written. It’s not just a physical adventure across treacherous spore seas; it’s an internal quest for self-discovery and bravery that resonates deeply. The unique blend of classic fantasy elements like a dragon and a truly unique magic system with the swashbuckling charm of pirates creates a fresh, unforgettable reading experience. It perfectly balances lighthearted, humorous moments with genuine emotional depth and thrilling plot twists that keep you guessing. For anyone who's been hesitant to jump into the sprawling, often intimidating world of fantasy, 'Tress of the Emerald Sea' is genuinely a perfect starting point. It offers all the grandeur, imagination, and intricate detail you’d expect from a Brandon Sanderson epic, but in a standalone, self-contained, and beautifully crafted package. It truly lives up to its captivating book cover and has definitely earned its spot as one of my favorite reads this year. Trust me, you absolutely won't regret picking up this gem and letting yourself be swept away!
