Ooop 🫢 the brown eyes are out
Switching from colored contact lenses to revealing my natural brown eyes was a surprisingly emotional experience. For years, I wore blue contacts, not only because I loved the aesthetic but also to correct my vision since my lenses were prescribed. I got so used to seeing myself with blue eyes that I honestly forgot what my natural eye color looked like. It felt like stepping into a new version of myself when I took off those contacts one day, especially since I rarely let anyone see the real me without them. A big part of why I resisted using my natural eyes publicly was fear—fear of how others might perceive me and even my own insecurities. Blue eyes have certain cultural associations with beauty in media, and for me, they became a kind of armor. But as I embraced my natural brown eyes, I started to appreciate the uniqueness and warmth they brought to my appearance. Brown eyes, often underestimated, have such depth and expressiveness once you become truly comfortable with them. It wasn’t without challenges. Wearing prescribed contact lenses means you need to be extra careful with eye hygiene and comfort, especially since switching lenses or removing them can cause discomfort or even migraines. I experienced headaches when I first removed my blue lenses, which made me realize how much strain I’d been under. In sharing this turning point, I hope to encourage others who might also be hiding behind colored contacts or other aesthetic covers. There’s something powerful in embracing your authentic self—eye color included. Whether it’s brown, blue, green, or hazel, your natural look tells your unique story, and there’s beauty in that truth. So, here’s to breaking free from the expectations and loving your real eyes, the way they are.
