Vanilla 01 Review
Welcome to a new series this month where I chat about middle eastern & arabic dupe house fragrances. I have full bottles, samples, and decants I’m wearing and exploring.
I want to understand the “hype” behind some of these fragrances and most of them I genuinely really enjoy. Let’s smell, learn, and discern what makes them smell good or bad for that matter.
This is your reminder that not all Arabic and middle eastern fragrances are DUPES! This is very important to educate audiences about.
If you like floral vanilla fragrances and want something a bit different with caramel and coffee this is a creamy blend that’s great for you. It just don’t work for me.
🔗Fragrances I mention will all be linked on Shopmy and LTK in bio. This one is only linked on Shopmy for now until available on Jomashop at LTK.

It's no secret that some high-end fragrances, like the coveted Byredo Vanille Antique, come with a price tag that can make your eyes water. That's why so many of us are constantly on the hunt for beautiful alternatives or "dupes" that capture a similar essence without breaking the bank. I've been diving deep into the fascinating world of Middle Eastern and Arabic fragrances, which are often praised for their incredible value and quality, especially when it comes to scents inspired by popular, pricier options. When I first heard about Vanilla 01, described as a creamy blend of floral vanilla with surprising notes of caramel and coffee, my curiosity was absolutely piqued. Could this be a strong contender for those who adore the rich, smoky warmth of Byredo Vanille Antique but are looking for something a bit different, or perhaps more accessible? I had to try it for myself, eager to see if it lived up to the buzz. Now, let's talk about the actual experience of wearing Vanilla 01. It definitely delivers on the creamy floral vanilla aspect right from the start. It’s a sweet, comforting, almost edible scent, and those distinct caramel and coffee notes add an intriguing gourmand twist that you don't always find in traditional vanilla perfumes. Imagine a cozy coffee shop with a hint of blooming flowers; it’s that kind of inviting warmth. While Byredo Vanille Antique is renowned for its deep, almost boozy vanilla with hints of plum, a touch of amber, and a leathery backdrop that gives it a sophisticated, antique, and slightly dark feel, Vanilla 01 leans more into a modern, bright, and undeniably sweet gourmand character. For me personally, it didn't quite hit the specific complex, smoky vanilla chord I was hoping for – sometimes a scent just doesn't align with your personal chemistry or preference, and that's totally okay! But I can absolutely see why it would appeal to many, especially those who love a cozy, sweet gourmand vanilla that feels both luxurious and approachable. Its projection and longevity were decent, giving a good scent bubble for several hours. It’s crucial to remember, as the original article mentioned, not all Middle Eastern and Arabic fragrances are simply "dupes." Many are standalone masterpieces with their own unique character and heritage, drawing from rich traditions of perfumery. While they might share a similar vibe or a few common notes with popular designer or niche scents, they often evolve into something entirely their own. The term "dupe house fragrance" often refers to brands that intentionally create scents inspired by bestsellers, offering an affordable entry point into a particular scent profile, allowing more people to enjoy a similar style without the premium cost. This distinction is really important to understand when exploring this exciting category of perfumes. If you're on the hunt for fragrances like Byredo Vanille Antique or exploring alternatives such as Vanilla 01, places like Jomashop are often a fantastic go-to for discounted designer and niche perfumes. You can also find many fantastic Middle Eastern brands on various online retailers, sometimes even directly from their own country's distributors, or through specialized online boutiques. My top advice is always to seek out samples or decants whenever possible. Fragrance is such a personal journey, and what smells amazing on one person might be entirely different on another. It's the absolute best way to discover if a scent truly resonates with you and complements your style before committing to a full bottle. Consider how the fragrance develops on your skin throughout the day, as notes can change and evolve. So, while Vanilla 01 might not have become my personal signature scent, its unique blend of floral vanilla with those delicious caramel and coffee notes makes it a fascinating and worthwhile exploration for anyone interested in affordable, high-quality Middle Eastern fragrances. Keep an open mind, dive into the vast world of scents available, and you might just find your next favorite!
