Heatless style pt.2 - braids
Pt. 2 goes out to braids. I like to braid my hair after it’s air dried about 80% along with my air dry cream, sleep with it overnight and take it out in the mornings it’s soft, so shiny and hydrated. If you want a natural waves look, braids is the way to go. #braids #braidstyles #braidsinspo #braidhairstyle #heatlessstyling #hairtip #hairtipsandtricks
Hey everyone! If you're anything like me, you're always looking for ways to get gorgeous hair without frying it with heat. My go-to method for achieving those coveted heatless waves? Braids, of course! You’ve seen my basic braid routine, but let’s dive deeper into how you can get stunning results, especially focusing on those 'before and after' transformations and different braid styles. First off, the magic truly happens overnight. The key is starting with hair that’s about 80% air-dried. This allows the hair to be pliable enough to take on the wave pattern but not so wet that it won't dry completely, preventing that dreaded damp hair smell or flat roots. I always apply a good air dry cream or leave-in conditioner before braiding. This isn't just for manageability; it significantly helps to lock in shine and moisture, giving you those soft, touchable waves that look effortlessly chic. One of the biggest perks, as the image highlights, is that this method truly gives you a break from heat styling, which is essential for healthy hair growth and preventing breakage. Now, let's talk braid variety because different braids yield different wave results! Many of you might be curious about specific styles like the Dutch braid or rope braid for overnight waves. For a more defined, voluminous wave, especially if you have long hair, I love using two Dutch braids. A Dutch braid (which is essentially an inside-out French braid) creates a beautiful S-wave pattern that really pops. If you're aiming for a slightly tighter, more intricate wave, try sleeping with a few smaller Dutch braids. The more braids you do, the more pronounced and numerous your waves will be. For a softer, more relaxed look, two simple pigtail braids are perfect, especially if you’re looking for a quick and easy solution before bed. Another fantastic option for unique waves is the rope braid. Instead of braiding three strands, you twist two sections of hair around each other. This creates a distinct, almost corkscrew-like wave pattern that’s incredibly chic. Just remember to twist both sections in one direction, and then twist them around each other in the opposite direction to prevent unraveling. Whichever braid style you choose, ensure they're not too tight at the scalp to avoid discomfort while sleeping and unnecessary pulling on your hair. I've found that leaving the ends unbraided for the last inch or two also helps create a more natural, less crimped finish. When you wake up in the morning, resist the urge to immediately brush your hair. Gently unravel each braid, one at a time. I usually use a few drops of a lightweight hair oil on my fingertips as I separate the waves. This adds extra shine and helps to prevent frizz. Once all the braids are out, I might gently finger-comb through to blend the waves, or if I want more volume, I'll flip my head over and give it a gentle shake at the roots. The 'before and after' difference is always amazing – from flat or messy bed hair to bouncy, beautiful waves, all thanks to a little overnight braiding! It's truly a game-changer for maintaining healthy hair while still looking fabulous.
