Super Greasy😂 Just Sliding Str8 out😂
Okay, so who else has been there? You're fresh out of styling, feeling good about your new braids, maybe even feeling a little extra pampered after generously applying your favorite hair grease, and then BAM! They start slipping and sliding right out. Let me tell you, I just had a major moment with this, and it was all because I over greased my hair. I thought I was giving my scalp and hair some much-needed moisture and protection, but I went a little too heavy-handed with the pomade. The result? My perfectly neat braids turned into a slick, uncooperative mess. It was literally a case of how braids slide out my hair cuz I over greased it! It's incredibly frustrating, especially when you've spent hours getting your style just right. Up close, my hair looked super shiny and greasy, not in a healthy, vibrant way, but in a 'just dipped my head in an oil slick' kind of way. It felt heavy, weighed down, and just wouldn't hold the tension needed for the braids to stay put. I even tried to re-do a few, hoping they’d grip better, but they just kept falling apart almost immediately. So, why exactly does this happen? When you apply too much product, especially thick greases or heavy oils, you essentially create a super slick, low-friction surface on your hair strands. Braids, whether they’re cornrows, box braids, or twists, rely on friction and proper tension between the hair strands to hold their shape and stay in place. When your hair is too greasy, that crucial friction is gone, and the individual strands can't grip each other properly. It's like trying to tie a secure knot with a buttered rope – practically impossible! The excess product also adds weight to the hair, making it more prone to slipping and unraveling. Beyond just the braids sliding out, over-greasing can lead to other issues too. You might experience product build-up on your scalp, which can clog pores, lead to itchiness, and even hinder healthy hair growth. It can also attract dirt and lint more easily, making your hair look duller and feel dirtier faster, despite your best efforts to moisturize. So, what did I learn from my greasy hair woes? Less is definitely more! When greasing your scalp or hair for braids, use a very small amount. Focus on your scalp, applying product sparingly with your fingertips directly to the skin, rather than saturating the entire length of your hair, especially if you're using a thick product. Consider the type of product you're using as well. Lighter oils like jojoba or argan oil, or even a good water-based leave-in conditioner, might be a better choice for maintaining moisture without adding excessive slickness, depending on your hair type and the climate. Heavy pomades are great for sealing in moisture but need to be used judiciously. If you've already gone overboard like I did, don't panic! For a quick fix without completely undoing your style, a light dusting of dry shampoo at the roots can help absorb some of the excess oil and reduce the slickness. Be sure to gently pat it in, don't rub aggressively. Another trick I've heard is gently blotting the roots with a paper towel or a clean cloth, but you have to be super careful not to disturb your braids too much. If it's really bad and the braids just aren't holding, a clarifying shampoo might be needed to reset your hair, but that usually means starting fresh with a new style. Next time, I'm definitely sticking to a lighter hand with my products to avoid this shiny greasy hair close up situation again! It's all about finding that perfect balance – you want healthy, moisturized hair, not a grease slick that makes your braids rebel! Live and learn, right? Hopefully, my little mishap can save you some braiding trouble!
