This Week’s Manga, Novel, and Anime
MANGA: ~ CAT GAMER ~
⭐️Overall rating: 5/5
I picked up Cat Gamer at the library. It’s a fluffy manga with an MC I can really relate to — she’s a worker in her late 20s who loves to game. When a kitten is found in the parking lot where she works, she takes it home.
The kitty looks just like my cat. It’s my new fave slice of life manga to read . 🩵
NOVEL: ~ HOME IS WHERE THE BODIES ARE ~
⭐️Overall rating: 3.5/5
Home Is Where the Bodies Are was okay for me. No spoilers, I really liked the premise but there were certain aspects that didn’t really land with me. Worth a read if you want a mystery with complicated family dynamics
ANIME: ~ KAIJU NO. 8 ~
⭐️Overall rating: 5/5
I looooooved Kaiju No. 8!! The story is really interesting and not nearly as mundane as I was expecting. I loved the musical score references to the Godzilla theme. I’m soooo tempted to start reading the manga

Okay, so you've seen my quick takes, but I wanted to dive a little deeper into why these titles made it onto my 'must-experience' list this week! Grabbing a cup of coffee – maybe a PJ's Coffee like in one of my photos – and settling in with a good book or show is one of my favorite things, and these three certainly delivered. First up, Cat Gamer manga. When I picked this up, I wasn’t expecting to relate so much to the main character. She's a woman in her late 20s, navigating the daily grind, and her escape? Gaming! Sound familiar? What really sealed the deal for me was when she finds a stray kitten in her workplace parking lot and takes it home. It’s not just any kitten; the little furball looks uncannily like my own cat, which made the story instantly endearing. The cover itself, with that adorable black and white cat with those striking green eyes, just draws you in. Wataru Nadatani really captures the cozy, sometimes chaotic, reality of living with a pet and finding joy in simple things. If you're looking for a heartwarming, low-stakes slice-of-life story that understands the comfort of coming home to a furry friend after a long day, this manga is an absolute gem. It’s the perfect pick-me-up for anyone who loves cats, gaming, or just a sweet, relatable narrative. Next, we have the novel Home Is Where The Bodies Are by Jeneva Rose. Now, this one was a bit of a mixed bag for me, landing at a 3.5/5. The premise hooked me from the start – a deep, dark mystery swirling around complicated family dynamics. I'm a huge fan of thrillers that delve into the psychological complexities of relationships, and this promised just that. Without giving away any spoilers, I found myself constantly theorizing, trying to piece together the puzzle. However, there were certain plot points or character decisions that, for me, didn't quite land with the impact I was hoping for. It’s hard to put my finger on it without revealing too much, but sometimes the pacing felt a little off, or a twist didn't feel fully earned. Despite that, if you love a good whodunit where everyone has secrets and the family ties are more like tangled knots, it's definitely worth picking up. It's the kind of book you'll want to discuss with friends afterward, dissecting all the 'what ifs' and 'whys.' Finally, Kaiju No. 8 anime. Wow! This one absolutely blew me away and instantly became a 5/5 for me. I went in expecting a typical monster-fighting anime, but it was anything but mundane. The story is incredibly engaging, following Kafka Hibino, a man who always dreamed of joining the Defense Force but ended up cleaning up kaiju remains instead. His unexpected transformation and his journey to fulfill his dream against all odds is just so compelling. The action sequences are fluid and exciting, really making you feel the impact of each battle. And the musical score? Phenomenal! The subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) references to the classic Godzilla theme were a brilliant touch that really elevated the experience for me, adding an extra layer of epicness. Seeing the characters in their sleek combat suits battling those massive monsters against a green, rocky backdrop... it’s just stunning visually. If you're into thrilling, well-animated action with a fantastic plot and a protagonist you can root for, you HAVE to watch Kaiju No. 8. I'm seriously debating whether to start reading the manga because I need more of this story!
