Embracing 40
Wow, can you believe it? I recently hit the big 4-0, and let me tell you, it's been a ride! For so long, turning forty felt like a distant, slightly scary milestone. There's so much societal pressure, so many preconceived notions about what being 40 means. But as I’ve stepped into this new decade, I’ve found myself not dreading it, but truly Embracing 40 and all the beautiful changes it brings. For me, this chapter has been all about *rediscovering my magic*. What does that even mean, you ask? It's not about trying to relive my twenties or magically erasing fine lines. No, it's about reconnecting with that vibrant, authentic spark within me that might have gotten a little dim amidst career demands, motherhood, and just, well, life! It's about remembering what truly lights me up and giving myself permission to pursue it. So, how am I doing it? Here are a few personal steps I’ve been taking on this incredible journey to find my inner magic: Intentional Self-Reflection: I started by simply asking myself: What do *I* want now? Not what society expects, not what my kids need, but what truly brings me joy and fulfillment in this season of life? Journaling has become my sacred space to explore these questions, to acknowledge past achievements, and to dream new dreams for the future. Reigniting & Exploring Passions: Remember those hobbies you loved but put aside? For me, it was painting. I've dusted off my brushes, and even if it's just for an hour a week, getting lost in colors feels like pure magic. I've also challenged myself to try something entirely new – a pottery class! It's amazing how much confidence and joy can come from learning something from scratch. Prioritizing Holistic Self-Care: This isn't just about bubble baths (though those are great!). It’s about nourishing my mind, body, and spirit. It means making sure I get enough sleep, fueling my body with wholesome foods, and finding movement that feels good, whether it's a brisk walk or a dance session in my living room. It’s also about setting clearer boundaries to protect my energy and mental peace. Curating My Circle: I've become much more intentional about who I spend my time with. Surrounding myself with positive, uplifting women who celebrate each other's successes and provide genuine support has been game-changing. They're my cheerleaders, reminding me of my magic when I momentarily forget. Letting Go of "Shoulds": There's so much pressure on women, especially as we age. I’m actively working on releasing the "shoulds" – I should be at a certain career level, I should look a certain way, I should have done X, Y, Z by now. Instead, I'm focusing on gratitude for where I am and excitement for where I'm going. This shift in mindset has been incredibly liberating. *Embracing 40* has become a mantra for me, a reminder that this isn't an ending, but a powerful new beginning. It's a time to be unapologetically myself, to chase joy, and to truly believe in the unique magic I bring to the world. If you're approaching or well into your 40s, know that you're not alone, and there's so much beauty and power in this decade. Let's make it the most magical one yet!
