HOW TO SEW A ZIPPER

Make sure it's an appropriate length for the pocket opening you envision. For the pocket bag itself, I often use a sturdy liner fabric that can withstand daily use, like a strong cotton twill or even a durable synthetic blend. The outer fabric of your garment will dictate the visible part of the pocket. When it comes to designing and preparing your zippered pocket, there are a few options. An in-seam zippered pocket is discreet and great for trousers or jackets. A patch pocket with a zipper is more visible but can be very practical for tool belts or cargo pants. Regardless of the style, always use good quality interfacing on the opening where your zipper will be sewn, especially if your outer fabric is lightweight.
