my first tattoo… but i regret it

so this was my first tattoo… 😖

i’ve always wanted tattoos! i love them and think they’re such a creative expression.. but, let me tell you why i regret this one.

1. it was peer pressure 😆 i was hanging out with a friend who was getting hers done, and her and the artist both pressured me to get one.. i had like 5 minutes to pick a design, so i went with this.. i like the meaning behind it, the past being the smallest triangle, the middle being the present, and the future being the biggest. i do like that its always a reminder to keep going, but I wish i could’ve put more thought into it.

2. when I tried to join the air force a few months later, they basically told me id have to get t removed to join because its too close to my hand. my recruiter didn’t mention a waiver at that time so I felt like I had absolutely no choice.. i ended up not going because of it. (looking back, everything happens for a reason and Im happy with my life now.. but still)

3. I feel like it healed badly. you can’t tell much in the last photo, but the lines aren’t very straight and it looks like the ink has lifted out a bit.. it kind of looks blotchy? the artist was just starting out, and i think with a touch up it would be fine!

overall, I think my biggest issue is getting it when i did, and getting what i did. i wish i had more time to contemplate it before getting it but the peer pressure was too much for me 😆 it didn’t hurt though which was a relief

... Read moreIt’s totally understandable to feel regret about a tattoo, especially your first one! You're definitely not alone in this experience. Many of us have stories about tattoos that didn't quite turn out how we imagined, or that we simply outgrew. Your experience with the past present future triangle tattoo is a perfect example of how complex deciding on permanent body art can be. One of the biggest takeaways from your story is the impact of peer pressure and impulsivity. It’s so easy to get caught up in the moment, especially when friends are getting inked. But rushing to pick a design, like choosing a 3 triangle tattoo design in just five minutes, often leads to dissatisfaction later on. A tattoo is a significant decision, and taking ample time to research and truly connect with a design is crucial. Think about it: will this design still resonate with you in 5, 10, or even 20 years? Does its meaning, like the past present future symbol tattoos, truly align with your evolving self? It’s okay to say no or to take a rain check if you're not 100% sure. Placement is another huge factor, as you discovered with your Air Force application. A wrist tattoo, while often beautiful and visible, can sometimes create unexpected challenges in certain careers or social settings. Before getting inked, it's wise to consider how a tattoo on a highly visible area might affect job prospects or professional environments. Some industries have strict policies, and while waivers exist, it's not always a guarantee. Always research these potential impacts ahead of time. Then there's the artist's skill and healing process. It's tough when you feel like the ink has lifted or the lines aren't straight, especially with a fresh tattoo shown right after it’s done. While every artist has to start somewhere, it's vital for clients to choose an artist whose portfolio reflects the quality and style they desire. Don't be afraid to ask to see healed work, not just fresh simple tattoo image examples. Proper aftercare is also paramount for good healing; neglecting it can lead to blotchy or faded results. A good artist from a reputable tattoo & piercing shop will guide you through this process, showing you the tattoo template before starting with the tattoo machine. So, what can you do to minimize the chances of regretting a tattoo right after getting it? Take Your Time: Don't feel rushed. Sit with your design ideas for weeks or even months. If you still love it, that’s a good sign! Research the Artist: Look at their portfolio, read reviews, and make sure their style matches what you want. A great artist can make all the difference, even for a simple tattoo image. Consider Placement Carefully: Think about your lifestyle, career, and how the tattoo might age. Will it be easy to conceal if needed? Understand the Meaning: If your tattoo has symbolic meaning, like the past present future tattoo, ensure it's something deeply personal and timeless for you. Prioritize Aftercare: Follow your artist's instructions meticulously to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully. If you do find yourself with symbols of regret, remember that options exist. Cover-up tattoos can transform an unwanted design into something new and beautiful. Laser removal is also a viable, though often costly and lengthy, process. It's never truly no ragrets tattoo for everyone, but knowing your options can bring peace of mind. Your honesty about your experience is incredibly valuable for anyone considering their own first tattoo!

I find it odd that your friends would pressure you into something so serious. The artist should have known better. She doesn’t seem like a healthy friend
